Power Steering fluid leeking during autoX

Just wondering if anyone else has problems with the power steering fluid leeking out from the cap while AutoXing...has happened at all of the events I have done this year. It doesnt fit very tight but I dont think it is supposed to since the fluid expands when it gets hot, which makes me think it's just overheating...but I'm not sure...plus it has a cooler on it also

put a sock over it(absorb so it wont make a mess) and check the level once in awhile, it does expand and sometimes leak

Yup... this is normal. The cooling/pump can't keep up with the inputs and causes the resevoir to over flow. Another idea is to put saran wrap over the top and then secure the cap on.

Not much I know of to prevent the overflow.

X3.

I changed to the B14 PS tank in my NX. Didn't leak when running Falkens. Leaked a tiny bit (just enough to wet the neck of the tank) when running Hoosiers.

A B14 reservoir sounds like a good way to go....did not even think of that. The sock idea seems like a good way to at least keep everything clean

And stupidly illegal in stock class. But who really cares? It's not like the Cooper S runners have to worry about an SE-R. Actually I think it is illegal in STS too.

I personally would make a strong case of it falling under the "comfort and convenience" rule, like different shift knobs. IF that fails just tell them that you would be happy to swich back in the other tank as long as everyone else in class didn't mind you oiling down the course every run.

I doubt anyone would notice, much less care.

Back In The Day, Mike Garner (old SE-R guy) called Nissan Motorsports about this, and the conversation went something like this:

Mike: I started autocrossing my Sentra SE-R, and powersteering fluid leaks everywhere. Do you guys have a fix for it?

NM: Are you married, Mike?

Mike: (Kind of confused.) Um ... yeah.

NM: OK, what you do is take one of your wife's tampons and duct tape it over the top of the power steering cap.

And thus the nissan motorsports racing rag was born. Pat i think that brown rag you zip tied over it on the black car is still on it. Calum hasnt ever even checked the fluid in the car. Then again it hasnt been driven in over 2 years

If anyone is going to steal it, it's going to be me. Now step back.

hey now...i have an nx that would love it....plus i know where it sits, where all the tools are, the engine hoist, jack, air tools....and how easy it would be to get into his house

The engine in it is sitting halfway stripped, halfway to be removed for a 4 year old det sitting there.... Interior is mostly gutted, trunk still doesnt have the springs, the rear quarter has that small dent from his accident....i miss driving that car The nx is almost as fun as it was....and the nx doesnt crash off the non existant bumpstops

It might be legal in STS.

I almost found out if it was... but I never closed the loop.

Someone would have to find out if the part on the B13 has been superceded by the B14 part.... I think it is... the part number for the original B13 part is superceded but I couldn't ever find a picture of the new part number or find out what other cars that part number comes on.

If it is superceded, by Nissan, in the parts catalog with the B14 part... it is stock legal and STS legal.
