Yesterday was a blast, FastNX was there and a few 2.0L Nissans (NX2000's, 200SX's, My 2001 SE) too bad the 1.8's were so fast huh? (when driven by the AFSSC drivers) Though a few times they seemed to have newbies in the drivers seat, I saw alot of offs and a few close calls.
I thought my car held up pretty well considering it is essentially stock, FastNX was definitly fast, and there was a few slow Hondas out there. But it was a fun day...too bad the season is over now!

I dont know whay those XEs are so fast, i pulled about 3 car lenghts down the back straight but overall they were about the same speed. I figure they are maybe 100 pounds lighter than my NX, plus they are incredibly stiff, you see those roll cages, there must be 1/2 a mile of tubing in there! I guess the RA1s and hawk brakes dont hurt either. I followed Dave Diedrick for a few laps and i noticed he could brake and start his turn much later, especially at the end of *** back stretch.
Did you see when I looped it into the swamp at the end of the day? I figured out why, I'll post a pic if what used to be my brake pads today or tomorrow. I think from now on i will have a different set of pads and rotors for street and for track.
Can't wait till next year

The XE's weight 2390lbs without driver (minimum weight spec for series.) the roll cages are actually pretty simple but work well, they are not actually that stiff. The cages do not extend to the strut towers or any support structure. They mount on the floor and basically follow the A, B, and C pillars to the floor...thats it. You should have had a look at the Spec V roll cage:
compared to the XE:
The suspension is really soft too, stock struts with Eibach Sportlines.
Thje RA-1's were definitly better than my Yoks, I couldn't get the same grip in the corners they were. I'd be slipping and they'd be gaining. I had Hawk pads as well and still couldn't brake as deep as them, the weight difference likely had something to do with that (XE: 2390lbs vs. SE 2650lbs+/-)
Having the 200SX spin in front of me, in turn 1, was a bit of a surprise
I'm guessing Glenn probably didn't want to spin it in the wet.
I was out in it last week, when it was a bit more dry, with Bob (driver and owner) driving it. He was accelerating flat out down the back straight right to the 50 metre sign, where he would *start* to brake - and he was accelerating hard until his braking point! Incredible. (Mere mortals, including me, usually start to brake at the 100 metre sign)
He was hitting 165 on the back straight, and he's faster in the turbo car, of course. Very impressive. You might have had some problems passing him!
We were passing street cars (but they were all Porsches!) left right and centre
Dave didn't make it to that lapping session BTW, only Glenn.
Yeah, I asked if one of them was dave, but no dice. \
James, how fast do you get on the back straight? I was about 180 and i started braking midway between the 100 and 50 metre sign. I saw Diedrick doing it so i figured hell, why not.
Ha ha, I've done that. Check your rotors for cracks, as mine did. I did that on a *brand new* set of metal masters in 20 minutes.

180? That seems fast! That's faster than the race car with C3 cams!
I can't remember how fast I get to there - maybe barely 150, I'm guessing, because I do remember hitting the end of third at 7800 rpm. I could have shifted into fourth, but there were only a few seconds that I would be in fourth, so I wouldn't usually bother.
I haven't taken my car there since the new engine. I have to remember that my straightline speed will be faster, but I haven't changed suspension or brakes, so my cornering speeds will be the same.
I went past the redline in third and hit fourth well before the pit wall and i was in fourth for about five seconds. I noticed that i was able to take the last corner before the big straight much faster than everyone else, and when i got on it, i was instantly at redline in second. I think having the 8 pound flywheel and pullies allowed me to get out of the hole and start pulling in the high gears much more quickly. Also on the main straight I shifted into third about halfway down the straight, and i was about 6200 RPM (indicated) by the corner.
As far as the rotors, I machined them that night, and it looks like they lived. I am going to use those rotors and either nissan or ultimates for road use and another set of rotors with some serious pads for the track only.
On my last lap, I hit the brakes in corner two and obviously the fronts werent very effective but the rears locked up and I looped it. I was facing backwards and I saw a porsche coming right at me so I drove off the track right into a swamp!
I checked once, and I was hitting about 140kmh at the end of the straight, braking just before the 50m marker (when it had dried a bit) before that I was braking just before the two cracks in the surface just after the 100m mark...well maybe about halfway to the 50m marker.
I had no grip at all on that last corner before the Fabi straight. That was one of the reasons I had trouble getting by the CRX on the back straight...he solved the problem by prompty driving off the track and into the weeds on his own at the next corner...guess he shoulda let me by instead of trying to prove something.
He sure was holding us up!
I strated using a lot later turn in on that corner, you could definitly get on the throttle sooner. Thats how I passed the CRX the first time...the next time he was ready for it and blocked that line...then ran closer to the middle of the track all the way down the back straight ...oh well it worked itself out on the next corner
Yeah, I asked if one of them was dave, but no dice. \

Umm, not wanting to burst your bubble or anything, but I *highly doubt* that you hit 180 km/h on the Fabi back straight in your NX.
If Bob in his race car can't hit 180 km/h then there is no way in hell that you car can reach those speeds. IIRC, Jim's VE only hit 160 - 165 kph on the back straight.
I saw the sentra drivers start their turn much, much later than everyone else and it seemed to work
They turn in much later b/c their R-compound tires allow them to brake much later into Fabi turn #1 and stick much better.
I don't believe that they are turning in that much later than everyone else on the track. There are only so many lines to take in that corner and it exits onto a straight away.
It coud be argued that the spedometer in my car is not calibrated the same as these other cars, thus my car indicating a speed higher than it was actually travelling. However, you cannott dispute that i redlined in third and pulled in fourth for a few seconds. Redline in third is about 160. It was about 5° that day, maybe the cold temperatures has something to do with it. I find it hard to beleive that Jim can only get to 165 on the back stright, a car with power like his should be much faster. Also maybe too much power coming out of the corner could be a liability without a better LSD than stock.
You don't have to beleive me, but I was there, and you were not. I also had two people ride with me on seperate occasion that saw the 180 with their own eyes.

Yep - you're right that your speedo could be off due to a number of factors. I'm not disputing the fact that you redlined in 3rd and got into 4th for a couple of secs. I'm disputing the speed that you claim to have achieved.
180 kph is EXTREMELY fast to be going down Fabi's back straight. If Bob's race car and Jim's VE can't attain those speeds, then I highly doubt a lightly modded NX can exceed them.
BTW, redline in 3rd gear is 140 kph and not 160 kph.
You're right that you were there and I was not. I won't agrue that. However, I have driven Shannonville for the past 5 years and you have not. I have driven the Fabi straight as either a driver or a passenger in over 20 cars (some fully race prepped and others not) and only a handful of them
