Autopower and Kirk Racing. Since you're in the east, try Kirk Racing. They're in Alabama so the shipping to you will be less that it would be from CA. (I believe that's where Autopower is...)
I am looking for some people to go in on some roll bars/cages that are within 400 miles or so of each other. We could split shipping because it is usually expensive for only one cage.

If you are racing (not just hotlapping) I implore you to avoid the autopower or other bolt-in cages. They truly do not offer enough protection or stiffness in a serious incident. For a little more money you can have a quality cage constructed by a race shop. I paid only about 1,000 for my basic cage, and it is leaps and bounds more sound and tight-fitting than a $700 autopower.

I agree wholeheartedly. Not only will it be safer, but by virtue of cage design, will probably stiffen you up a little more. I have actually talked to a guy that builds NASCAR and dirt track cages, and he said he could do what I wanted for "no more than $800." I asked for a 6-point cage with almost all the bells and whistles too.
Another guy whom Tim Peele recommended, quoted me $1500. He has done IT cages before, and probably knows better what I want compared to the first guy. His welding skills may or may not be better too.
The co-owner of the car was looking for a basic main hoop which he was going to add on to. $40 can get ~40 feet of steel tubing to add on to the hoop. This guy has built cages before though, so the only matter after that is time. We definitely want to add door bars and add to the stiffness of the car at a few other points. Those will be determined when we hae everything taken out of the car next week.
While I do agree a custom welded cage is better in terms of safety and all, a friend of mine flipped his Rabbit 3 times in an ITB race at VIR. Autopower bolt-in. He walked (more like ran because he didn't know if the car was on fire or not) away. I was impressed.

I have seens a MK1 Rabbit fully race preped running HPDE's in NASA at VIR. Do you think that was the car?
not to highjack the thread but i will sell my 6pt autopower roll cage for $450+shipping. it is bolt in with "all" options. PM me if interested.
once again sorry for the highjack and the shameless plug.

Ah, no. This one is resting comfortably in the junkyard.
FWIW, I'll take a bolt-in cage over a half-assed welded cage any day. I've seen some half-assed cages. Buddy of mine was talked into a cage for his CRX. Guy said he'd do it for $600. Turned out to be the biggest POS I've ever seen. Same $600 would have had a nice, new Autopower. Crush bends = bad on a cage, Mmmkay??
The car that I bought has a bolt-in in it. I would say this cage is great for a street car. It's can be removed eaier than it is installed, and it's affordable. I don't see any down sides in strength for a bolt-in cage. But I swapped out all of the bolts for grade 8's instead of the supplied grade 5's. I'd have to say that it'd be just as strong as any weld-in cage where it meets the chassis, only because our cars are uni-bodies. Of course a well built, custom cage is just that, but for the every day joe shmoe who just does track events, etc.... a bolt-in works like a champ.
