STS/STX clutch question

I cannot find anywhere in the rules that indicates any allowable change to the clutch for STS and STX. Did I just miss it, or am I going to have to go to Nissan and hemmorage money for a clutch to stay within the rules?

yes. Unfortunately, the rules somewhere say aftermarket or upgraded clutches, including within model years, arenot allowed. (i.e. B15 clutches are not legal for any SE-R) Pisses me off to no end:-P

I thought you had some leyway from the rules in the stock class. Standard wear items can be upgraded. Check that out first.

No one would know one way or the other. If someone cracked open the tranny they might not even know better then.

The JWT pressure plate is a reworked Nissan piece, so depending on origin, it might even say Nissan on it. The B15 disc is OEM Nissan, so that's not going to look mysterious.

I'm going JWT PP/B15 disc whenever my clutch goes, and I don't ever intend to go beyond STS mods with my SE-R. I'll do it just to spite the SCCA and the rulemongers - the asshats that had to be fought tooth and nail to even consider allowing aftermarket engine mounts.

When I put my quaiffe tranny in I just got a key value clutch kit from Greg Vogel. I don't remember the price being unreasonable. I also changed the clutch cable out and the clutch engagement is about perfect now. I don't see the reason for an upgrade clutch with an NA motor either.

I'm pretty sure the B15 clutch disc is legal due to the fact that NISSAN superceded the part number for the B13 disc.

The JWT PP is illegal for STS/STX and stock. At a national-level event, if you get protested, they WILL pull the tranny. If you don't run any of those events, I doubt anyone would know... or care.

As for the validity of the rule... I certainly don't want Subarus to have more of a launch advantage than they already have. It's significantly cheaper to put an OEM clutch than the JWT PP/B15 combo especially since with bolt-ons, it's not much of an improvement...

I don't recommend the key value kit. My KV kit was a piece of @#$%.

if i recall the combo of the B15 pp and disc is supposedly like 300 bucks with 15% improvement over OEM b13. but im certianly talking out my ass since i only remember of seeing this over on www.b15sentra.net

more over i think my biggest concern with the death of the SR20 and the b15's unadjustable rear beam is the update backdate rule. i hope they dont go through with putting this to sleep

B15 disc JWT PP all the way. I don't know if you are planning on taking your auto-x to the national level Matt, but I highly doubt anyone would ever have a problem with this combo. And clutch feel is completly stock.

I doubt anyone would really care in the NCAC,I've been running STX lately with a non-adjustable bucket seat, and no ones really complained. You could just do a full det swap and run Triad Region in D-stock

Honestly, my B15 has 90,000+ miles on it with an absurd number of autocross runs along with generally driving like a lunatic on the road. I still have the Factory clutch and it still breaks my 215/45-16 Azenis loose in second gear. I feel that simply replacing it with a B15 clutch should be just fine as long as you have a N/A bolt on motor. I keep waiting for it to die...but it won't (knocking on wood). IMHO, unless if you throw in a bronze unsprung clutch nobody will likely know or care.

IIRC, clutch and catback exhaust are open mods. i could be wrong though, however. i have not looked at the rulebook in some time, and my SCCA rulebook is for 2002 rules.

a quaife in STS is a big no-no, however. STS only allows factory viscous-coupled LSDs.

so technically, a B15 SE-R/Spec V, and an Integra Type R are both ineligible for STS and should both go in STX (they do not have viscous-coupled LSDs).
