Colin McRae signs for Nissan

Colin McRae has signed with Nissan to do the Paris-Dakar rally. You can read about it at www.motorsportvortex.com. Great site, it highlights DTM, touring car classes, WRC, F1, etc. Sorry, no drag racing.

looks like just a one outting kinda thing. With Richard Burns dropping out this season Subaru is left with only one driver, I'm sure Colin McRae is near the top of their wish list. Although I suspect part of the reason why he's so not popular with the factory teams is his salary...

I absolutely *love* WRC. But, Colin McRae is not at the top of my list of favorite drivers. I watched he and Nicky Grist act like an old married couple last year. Nicky did make one mistake. But, Colin made several and then looked at Nicky like it was his fault or something. After watching several offs this year, I'm sure Nicky was glad to be doing broadcast work. And, I enjoyed seeing old-man Carlos beat him out for the second seat.

This was a good year for WRC competition. Too bad Speed cut the nightly broadcasts on race weekends. Now, I watch it on PVR instead of live. Commercial free.....

Dakar is very cool too. Looking forward this years race.

But there was a great sound byte from at least one of their exchanges: "ask the Welsh Wizard"

Dakar is great. I hope the Nissan trucks will be geared properly this year. Last year, they got dusted on the straights.

Yeah, McRae is past his prime, IMO. Nissan needs to start a WRC program. Subaru and sh*tsubishi make a killing on their "rally" cars (i.e. STi, Evo). Make a modern GTi-R, active diffs, lightweight. Hire Gilles Panizzi and Sebastian Loeb as the factory drivers.
It's nice to dream.

Trucks. I want to see the big trucks. Who was the guy who son also races in the big truck class. In a 2,000HP Kamaz or something.

There was a shot from 10+ years ago of him passing an open class car in the desert. A 20,000lb truck going 130+ is something to see! Well, till he wiped out and it looked something like a swap meet in the middle of Africa.

Yeah, the trunks are hilarious. It's like watching hippos crashing through a horse race. The guy you're talking about is from South Africa, his son was in a crash last year. Dutch name - de Villiers, I believe.
