Checking Exhaust Decibels??

Does anybody know if there are meters available that measure decibels? ANd how much they cost? I'm gonna try a Track Day event this summer and they have decibel limits on the racetracks, just wanted to check if my car would be ok. I have 3" exhaust on it right now and its still NA so its CRAZY loud.

*I answered my own question they sell some sound level meters at radio shack*

Just FYI

SCCA limits to what, 105db (I can't remember).

I was running an NA motor, Hotshot header, 2.25" mandrel bent pipe with a side exhaust (one bend). No cat - no muffler. It sounded great but was stupid loud.

I pegged the meter at 2 over (so, that would be 107db in my example). My exhaust was pointing to the sound control device.

Anyway, I've added an ultraflow muffler. It is way quiter but still sounds good. I'll probably go back to open when it dumps out the back and we can point it away from sound control.

An easy, no cost solution is to find out where the meter will be located at the track. When you come to that point where they are taking measurements, ease of the throttle or short shift. This is a common way a lot of SCCA folks get around noise limits. Not saying it's legal, just a way to do it. In fact, at some local events, the Sound Chief makes it very clear where the test equipment is located and will "suggest" to certain individuals that they soft-peddle it thru that section to avoid any issues.

I think that's the official cap, but some tracks are lower. I've worked sound control before and it's definatly an interesting job.
