I was just wondering if anyone has used any of the smaller half sized radiators from like a civic? They also are cheaper then any of the alum. ones for our cars that i have found so far. I just want to free up some space for my water to air intercooler set up and my oil cooler. I dont want to put 1 in and then have it not work good enough on a road course. I drive my car almost every day besides rain and snow, i also auto-x, road race, and drag race.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,Jon

I would think a half radiator would work fine with a two s blade fans on it 1 front 1 back. And most likely 1 running all the time. With some good ducting i think i should be fine, with a water to air intercooler, big oil cooler lots of water wetter a nismo thermostat, and ur pulleys. It rarely gets very very hot in wisconsin, so its not like i am in the desert at like 100 deg. road racing.
Thanks,Jon

Eh... if you plan on doing a 30min session, the half radiator just isn't going to cut it (unless its 30 degrees outside). Heck, the stock radiator just doesn't cut anymore either. And once your moving at a decent speed, the fans don't matter anymore. Plus, you have a NX which already has cooling probs. If you plan on doing track time with a turbo car, you need to stuff the biggest radiator you can find that'll fit.

I never had a problem with my stock radiator on an 80 deg. day running 30 min track sessions at road america, but that was at 6psi. I would like to run 10psi or so this year, so i guess i prob. should go with a large radiator. Any idea where to get a cheap all alum. radiator? I have seen some cheap ones in summit but what other cars radiator has the same inlet and outlet configuration as ours?
The griffin ones and the summit ones are pretty cheap, compared to like the koyo made for our cars.
Is that actually for our cars? At least the pic has the inlet and outlet on the same side which isnt the case for our cars. Those are very nice, that is whta i am considering 1 of those or find somthing that fits from another type of car.
My friend with a Talon is doing what you describe. He cut out a lot of the bumper support and put a ever so slightly smaller radiator in place with a intercooler mounted just to the side. He figures that going 10% smaller but much thicker would balance it all out. Plus, he tossed the AC so the radiator is no longer blocked by any of that crap. The Honda Radiators are a bunch smaller then the Nissan units. Hondas don't seem to have some of the same issues in cooling that Nissans have. I would be carefull about direct comparisions. Everyone told me that I needed an upgraded radiator for my VE (well except for my Talon friend). In the end I didn't need the radiator but I did need the oil cooler. I think you will need more then the Honda 1/2 radiator. You might want to consider how you could do it with ducting and other items and then a 80% size unit (minus all the AC). Then pay carefull attention to the ducting and airflow. Fans are not needed on a track car. At speed they get in the way not help. I deleted one of mine when its really hot. It will get hot on the street if I am not moving but once moving it is not needed at all.
Steve is the man when it comes to engine cooling on the track.
