problems w/ sr20development

Hey all,

Just wanted to share with all of you my buying experience with Chris @ sr20development. Super nice guy. When I emailed him months ago about a JDM SR20DE, he responded with the quickness and gave me a good price and assured me I was paying the higher price for his "knowledge, quality, and experience". I chose to purchase a motor from him since I had heard SO MANY good things about him. I bought my motor on 3/22, the money was taken from me on 3/25. $650.00, shipped to my door in Roanoke, VA. Cool! He assured me it would ship out no later than the following friday(3/29). One week later, no tracking number, no calls from Chris. I call, he puts me on hold. He tells me that he found my engine in the junkpile, it had failed the compression test, he'll have to find me a new one. Should ship out in another week, sorry for the delay. No problem, I just tell him it's okay, and to just make sure and get me a clean motor. Nearly 2 weeks later, I call, and he appears to have forgotten about me..

After being placed on hold for around 10 minutes, he tells me that he is so sorry that he has forgotten about me. He offered to credit $75.00 back to my card because he's forgotten about me and promises it will ship before the end of the month. Folks, he promised me $75 a week and a half ago, and it still isn't here!!! I'm getting totally pissed off at this guy. I would be happier right now if he would have never promised me the $75 than to promise it, then not follow through. What kind of business is this guy running? Does anyone know him personally? It's 9.45 eastern time right now, and his office is fu*king closed! I have talked to him at 9.45 eastern time on a weekday before! What the fu*k is this!! He hasn't even emailed me, given me any updates, or anything. I emailed him 3 times, no responses yet. I even left a message telling him to call me and he hasn't returned my call. After I get my motor and $75 he promised me, this will be the last time I ever deal w/ chris @ sr20development.

just wanted to vent...anyone else had such a horrible buying experience with chris?

Chris is a nice guy, but he's a monkey. He's unorganized and he has no idea how to run a shop.

How do I know this? It took me over 5 months to get parts from SR20Development - parts that Chris said he had and were ready to go.

I spent $3600 up front with Chris and got the sh*ttiest fu*king piece of ass BB DET motor on the planet.

I have written a ton about the ass-ripping SR20development experience.. I will post thread links here shortly. Basically, do NOT trust this guy - he is a KNOWN liar and lousy businessman, who has no integrity that will do anything to fatten his pockets at the customer's expense.

I haven't had the misfortune of buying anything from Chris and the gang at SR20 Development. But I can say that I've experienced firsthand their shoddy workmanship and blatant ripoffs. I know three people close to me that have bought or dealt with Chris and I coincidentally know three people that got ripped off in their dealings by Chris. My friend Antonio G bought a DET from them last year.. it was promised to show up within a week or so. What shows up (at my house/swap station) is the sorriest excuse of a DET ever. The damn thing was sludged up on the inside to hell. I could take a dump under the valvecover of my 250k+ DE (with 6k oil change intervals) and still not make it as disgusting as what he got. I even took a video of it. And hopefully Antonio will post it to the forums. After over a week of prodding Chris finally arranges to have the motor picked up.. oh guess who has to pay for the shipping? yeah you guessed it.. Antonio! It gets to SR20Development and Chris calls Antonio up saying that stuff is missing.. Yeah right. They finally almost over a month later send us a replacement one.. oh yeah guess who else also had to pay for shipping.. Yeah.. Antonio. Ok he ordered the DET back in November I think. We installed it last week of January.. And the last bit of parts (intercooler/plumbing) finally showed up Mid March.. what the fu*k?

And Ron's tale should be well known by now. I would recap it here but it'll take too much space. He will post the recaps and links to other threads on this. Basically Chris sold him and installed for him a piece of crap DET a simple swap.. in October.. he got it back in mid February. It broke down 90 miles away from their shop. They ignored his phone calls.. even hung up on him. So far there has been no resolution. Chris even promised Kojima that he would make things right. This was over 2 months ago. What kinda bullsh*t is that? They have still made no attempt to do anything about this. And I know some of the SR20Development guys read these forums. If you see this tell Chris to be a man and to take care of this now while he still has a chance, because I think at the next event he heads to.. there will be a few people wanting to have a word with him. (This is not a threat, he will have to explain himself face to face with many people he has blatantly ripped off).

It's so sad that a shop founded "for the people and by the people" for SR20 kind has turned out so bad and dishonest. I bet a lot of people are regretting having reccomended SR20Dev to their friends and colleagues. I know I'm one of them. But from now on, any time I can steer someone away from those scammers I will. Silversx.. sadly you are not alone. I think there are almost enough people to take joint legal action?

Yeah, I ordered the following items from SR20 in October. It took over FIVE months to get everything, and I spent about $3900 of my hard-earned cash there. Oh and this is with the supposed SERCA discount. I only went w/ them since I heard they had the best engines and made the best stuff.

I ordered:
1) A Bluebird SR20DET
2) B13 JWT ECU programmed for the Bluebird turbo
3) 2.5" SR20Dev downpipe
4) Stage II FMIC kit - includes a Spearco core w/ end tanks and 2" piping that should "bolt-on"
5) Redline Heavy Shockproof tranny fluid

I made my order, and he was REALLY good about making sure payment went smoothly. The downpipe shows up within a few days. Nice, I thought. I send in a core ECU and the upgraded ECU shows up promptly too. 2 for 2, I thought this shop is really good. Then, came the engine. Man, what a flaming pile o' sh!t that was. It was completely sludged and just looked nasty. I called SR20 and spoke with "Tom" and it seems he didn't believe that they could ship such an engine. It took a fellow SR20 buddy of mine to videotape this thing they called an engine and put up online so Chris could see. [You can see it here: http://twinkie.ucdavis.edu/detopen.mov] After seeing the video, Chris agreed...that engine was not good at all. Shipping hassles ensued, and when Chris got the old engine, he blamed me for not sending the IC + piping and keeping the spark plugs. Uhhh...they didn't come with the engine, I told him.

So I got a new engine. This one took til December to show up mostly due to issues with the shipping company Chris wanted to use. It was very clean though you could tell it was cleaned up a lot. The stage II FMIC kit wasn't done, even though it was promised to be finished by November, so I had no means of intercooling (Chris still didn't ship the stock IC and piping that COMES with the engine). Chris finally got the stock IC + piping to me since the stage II wasn't done yet. The tranny fluid came along with that and were ready to do the swap. The swap went fine in mid-January, and the engine ran fine, but I still did not have my stage II intercooler and piping, so I was stuck w/ the crappy top mount for a while.

In early February, he said it was ready to go, but I guess he got me confused with some other Antonio in California that owns a B14 since he made up piping for a B14 and not a B13. I guess he forgot that I ordered the ECU from him and that I indeed owned a B13. I finally got the "right" kit in mid-March, with a $400 discount (the kit retails for $1200) since it was so late. I was promised, it will "bolt right on."

We installed it a couple weekends ago (it took 3 weeks to get the IC Swain-coated - now that's a GOOD business) and it didn't come close to fitting. The piping was 2-3" short on both sides of the IC. Instead of calling SR20 up and dealing w/ them again, we just got more piping and couplers from HomeDepot and fixed it. I paid for a f'ing kit that didn't even fit. What a ripoff. Oh and he promised mandrel bent 2" piping, but that's 2" outer diameter and there were some crushes in the bends. Furthermore, the flange for the BOV sucked and did not accomodate the stock DET BOV bolts (I told him to flange it for the stock BOV). Also, the downpipe hangs way below the x-member and now has a few dents. There's a leak in the weld where they made a bung for an O2 sensor. It's a $325 POS.

Going with SR20Dev is a long and expensive process. This was my only car and we had the means to do a swap in a weekend. All we needed was the supposed quality parts from them that they said they had "ready to go". Empty promises were made and I was charged for expensive items waaaay before they were shipped. I will never recommend them again.

WOW....all I can say is good thing it has been told. Just from seeing that video of the engine, it looks like they buy the ass end of DETs.

It really sucks to see so many people have been done wrong. Maybe it is possible to take legal action with all these unsatisfied customers.

You live in Virginia, you can get a motor in Jersey or in NYC and have it shipped. I can even find you a motor and have it delivered to you. How far into VA are you, as in distance from DC area?
I tried to order something from Sr20dev and it was promised to be delivered on thursday so lets see how it goes. I called and got through, chris even got me the tracking number but im not sure if i heard it right cause it wouldnt go through.

My experience is very limited, but still applicable to this topic.
--As part of a T25 setup I bought from a forum member (1fastser -- Jody in Texas), a new SR20Development 2.5" downpipe was part of the deal. It was new, but never installed, when it arrived on my doorstep. The T25 flange *should* bolt right up to a T28, if everything's right.

That downpipe wouldn't fit my T28 if you paid it money to do so.

After cutting the pipe in half and turning the flange, it now fits. But not after a LOT of frustration on my part, plus some added $ getting my exhaust guy to straighten it out.

Again...I bought the pipe new, but secondhand from the guy who did buy it new. It did not fit either a T25 or a T28, as the flange was turned way too far.

That's my experience, and you can probably guess my impression of their product is not too favorable, based on that.

best thing to do on the dp stuff is got to reputable muffler shop that has U-bend atleast u know it fits right. learn from our experiences. Iam also glad i was able to how sr20devlepoment
handles business which re -assures me of my hesitance early on.
Oh Greg thats strange with the DP not fitting. I guess i got lucky with being able to use the same 3inch DP with t-25,T28 and GT2835 with no issues.

they took my money on the 25th. funny, so eager to take my money, but not as eager to satisfy his customer. I called twice yesterday, left 2 messages. Called twice today, warning i'm going to call the BBB and my lawyer if my money is not refunded to me within the next business day. He's not answering his phone. as long as he gives me my money back, i'm gonna deal with andreas miko or someone else..this sucks.

I had no idea the downpipe would not fit. That would have added to the frustration and the 7 month tranny escapade with SR20dev.

I sent my tranny to SR20Dev. in early October to get the case welded and ended up buying a Quaife diff. under the impression I would get a discount for being a SERCA member. FULL RETAIL!
Chris told me it was part of a "buy-in" and he wouldn't be able to sell them cheaper until he sold 5 total...I was #3.

Calls were rarely returned, emails rarely responded to, and when I finally did get thru on the phone I could always tell when he was BS'n...which was often. They got the order wrong and almost cryo'd my gears...AGAIN. When I finally got the tranny back (3 weeks ago) I noticed it wasn't welded! That was the main reason I sent it there! So, I sent it back, they paid shipping both ways, welded the case and I got it back within 2 weeks.

I heard about people getting decent prices but they were all from Cali. So, if you live in Cali and can go to the shop and physically see faces, they might not be that bad. However, I will not purchase anything else from them.

Again, sorry about the downpipe, I had no idea.
laterz...Jody

Jody, that wasn't meant as a reflection of you at all. Rather, a reflection of the product that SR20Development put out. Sorry if it came across like that.

Jody's great to do business with, folks. Got to make that clear.

The pipe didn't fit what it was supposed to. It didn't take much (a hacksaw and a few $ to my exhaust guy) to make it work and fit like a charm.
