Lightbulb SR20 Development

Hi all,

Last week I made up my mind to have my transmission sent out to SR20Development for cryo-treatment, shot-peening, case-welding and switches replacement. I leisurely mentioned that fact on the SE-R list while discussing my new Falken Azenis tires that arrived last Wednesday. Soon thereafter, I received an e-mail directing me to the now-famous thread about problems with SR20Development. Previously unaware there were a number of individuals unhappy with SR20Development, I was surprised to read passionate posts from several individuals who maintain they received subpar parts and customer service from a company that seemed to enjoy favorable ratings in Sport Compact Car. Needless to say, these scathing posts from dissatisfied customers led me to reconsider doing business with SR20Development. But after more thought, I'm not so sure I'm willing to give up on them quite yet. Read on to hear why...

As you all know, the SR20 community is relatively small compared to the ubiquitous Honda crowd. As such, we have a correspondingly small vendor network to which we can work with. With that said, any company that specializes in our car/engine is particularly precious; we simply can't afford to chase them away. That, of course, isn't a license for a company to provide shoddy parts and service. Nor is it particularly useful to post "ass-ripping" messages to the forum. Why? Because either way, NO ONE is the winner: Dissatisfied customers don't have what they want and a relatively rare SR20-specific vendor gets poor publicity. Now before you think I'm somehow "aligned" with Chris at SR20Development, consider this: I don't know Chris any more than I know the random guy at the McDonald's drive-through in a town I don't live. I don't know anyone else over at SR20 either, nor am I criticizing (or questioning their integrity) those who've had poor buying experiences. But this I do know: When I called SR20 Development to ask about transmission treatment options, Chris was courteous, he spent lots of time answering my questions, he didn't rush me away, and he seemed to know what he was talking about. With that said, my dealings with him have been completely positive.

So...if I do decide to do transmission treatment, I'm willing to give SR20Development the benefit of the doubt - for better or for worse. That's just how things get done.

Regards,

Rob

Thanks for the objective approach to a particularly volatile (at the moment) topic.

The problems have actually been few in number compared to the number of averall completed transactions going back many years.

The high dollar amount of recent issues have made it hard on both sides to resolve problems. And due to the tight nature of the comunity people have chosen sides to support their friends and associates. Hopefully these things will be resolved and people can move on.

Thumbs up

I've talked to Chris several times... I've never bought anything from him yet, and he still takes the time to answer questions and he always calls back when I call and leave messages with a tech question. I have no reason to dog them. In fact, on the other side of the coin, Chris has(on several occasions talking about business)let me in on the stresses of running a business such as they do. I can appreciate that b/c I too have a business... Some people have no clue what kind of pressure and stress it is. You have to depend on other people still. You can say...oh, well I can get you this part by such and such...And then, you find out that your vendor can't get it for 2 weeks. Or that it takes UPS two weeks to ship a tranny across the states and back. Things go wrong sometimes. But to grill a company like this one is kinda pointless. I think the good FAR outweighs the bad. I plan on doing some business with Chris and several other people here. Overall...I thank everyone who comes through with parts and knowledge.

I have meet chis had had a set of jim wolf cams installed a leak down / compression test and a valve cover finish in one day on my 1996 240sx. This was after a recommendation from a friend I know that works at a Nissan dealership as a part manager near my home. The guys at sr20development are great. They allowed me to watch the install ask a ton of questions and gave great advice for future upgrades. I was so impressed with their work that I went out and bought a 1993 sentra se-r with plans to do the de-t swap. I drove the car from vista to san tee to see chis and to see what he thought about the buy. I only paid $1500 for the car. Not even 5 minutes later chis is checking every noke and cranny . I mean he gave it a fully diagnostic check. It was so involved that I felt that I should have paid for the service. Im not a new kid on the block when it comes to modifying a vehicle. I have been to several shops in the so cal area, even been to court with ARD (gude head package gone wrong). Chis has a great business with fair prices. I have never meet a person that took so much time to answer questions and he made sure that my car was top notch before I drove it 70 miles home. Hey they even let me take one of their personnel cars out to buy lunch. I mean these people didnt even know me. I sorry guys I cant say enough good thing about the guys at sr20.being a US MARINE I have very high standards and a keen eye for attention to detail. I know what a bad shop is and this is not one of them. All I can say is when I return form Japan the only people that will be touching my classic will be the guys at sr20. I have compared and they are the best. I know about the spelling so save it.
