I have a greddy E-manage, and i want to hook up ECUTalk to my PDA. if i make changes to the fuel map in E-manage, what will show up when i use ECUTalk? would it show the altered or unaltered signals?

altered, same with any piggyback...consult will display what the ecu "sees", and the purpose of all piggybacks is to trick the ecu, so it will show whatever the piggyback is showing it.

so the goal would be for the stock ECU to read 100% on the A/F ratio guage? the e manage only alters input right? not output?

I'm trying to figure this out in my head... would the ECUTalk program be any use at all when trying to tune with a piggyback or would you need the real readings?

consult doesnt show AFR. it can show a rich/lean register, but this is useless for tuning. the "AF Alpha" etc value are just the ECU's internal correction for cruising, etc, and also are relatively useless for tuning

ecutalk would be useful to log data like injector duty cycle (ie, how long the ecu is holding injectors open) vs rpm, AFM (despite afm being corrected by piggyback), but one of the main components you need is a wideband O2 sensor to obtain the real AFR, and a way to log this (eg dyno's by nature log this).

consult is mostly useful for monitoring rather than tuning, but it has its uses in tuning, mainly to check resulting injector duty cycles, and comparing these to AFR to determine whether injectors are maxing out (likewise if AFM is maxing out)

ok, so what about the use of the realtime? is that like the consult and a tuner?
and also, so it would be fine to run one of calums daughterboard consults with the safc2 and a boosted motor?

i can build the motor, i can even splice the wires for the ecu.....but when it comes to understanding how the ecu programs work.....that i am havin a difficult time understanding.

the realtime is a tunable ecu, one u dont have to stop and reprogram (but can do it on the fly...similar to how u can tune piggybacks on the fly)

running a daughterboard with safc2 defeats the purpose of a daughterboard - to remap the ecu (and hence anything safc2 can do can be done in a remap, though a bit harder)

k, so i am already lost again.......what do you suggest?

use the safc2 with xxxxx ecu, or scrap the safc2 and start over?

you have AIM?

safc2 is a simpler solution if you're new to this kind of stuff, and if you arent going for any major modifications (ie stock injectors/AFM etc). just a stock ecu is needed with it

but a realtime ecu would be better if you're going to pay someone to tune it or learn how to do it yourself, particularly if you're going to have major mods (upgraded injectors, afm, etc)

spend a bit of time searching/reading and see if that helps at all - at some point we all knew nothing about cars, ecu's etc. i dont use aim.

thanx man you have been really helpful!!!

so if i were to go with the realtime.....the safc2 would basically be pointless, correct?
how bout just the basic daughterboard and the safc2?

it would be pointless with either setup, since the whole point of a daughterboard/realtime ecu is that its tunable - ie whatever you would otherwise do with a safc2 on a non-tunable ECU, you can do with a daughterboard/realtime setup (just with a daughterboard it would be harder as you'd have to burn an eeprom whenever you want to make a change)

you need to install calumsult full first, then just stick the other exe in same dir then just chose between the two exe's depending on whether you are dumping a rom or not
