maf questions

Hi Calum

Here are my specs:

1994 SE-R
SR20VE
DE TB & MAF
VE injectors
SSAC header
2 1/4" catback
soon to be Calum ECU

Is it worthwhile to upgrade the MAF?

Which one would work best for my combo?

Will I have to hack into the wiring harness?

TIA!

I suspect yes, but I've never dyno'd a VE with both back-to-back. I've done a worked over KA with an N60 maf, that did see a gain. I recommend the early 90s maxima maf, purple tag, N60, I don't remember the p/n. Its very common and inexpensive. It is physically identical to a Z32 maf, including the wiring and connector. You will have to splice your harness but its very easy.

Alternativley just run the DE maf to start, then upgrade later. Reflashing the rom chips is very straightforward.

MAF related:
Is there any major difference between the early Maxima 90-94 MAF and the newer 95-99 MAF?

Calum,

Is it straightforward to change the settings for one MAF to another as well? Within the program, I mean.

I'm going to order, but I'm not sure whether I should request my initial tune to be for the DE MAF currently on the car or VE MAF I have waiting to go on.

Thanks!

Yes, changing just the maf is pretty straightforward. You need to change the VQ table, and then adjust your k-number to work with the new maf. No biggie.

If your changing injectors and maf, I recommend changing just the maf first, get that set, then change the injectors. This makes life waaaay easier.

I'll post a FAQ in the next couple of days (Saturday evening, hopefully) with step-by-step instructions.
