NOOB needs clarification

First off, I have read lots and lots to try and educate myself on your product - and I have a limited idea what service you provide - but I need a bit more help as I'm not exactly a spring chicken like most folks on this forum and thus not the best with high tech stuff.
#1 - Please clarify - your product is not plug and play.
#2 - Needs to be tuned further with a program? (How and with what?)
#3 - Needs to be tuned with laptop and or dyno?

Sorry for the basic questions, but I am starting to see that this "engine management stuff" is past my old school mechanical aptitude and although JWT works great for some, it sometimes leaves a bit to be desired.

1 - No, I don't want to be in the business of selling 'tuned' ecus. My goal is to develope a set of base maps that will get your car running, then you take it from there. What I would really like to see is a set of programs developed by the community. That would be nice.

2 - Yea, I (or someone) needs to write a bit on this. Check out the ecu tuning section in the contribs lounge. There's alot of stuff out there (sr20forum and the internet), but its very spread out. A wiki on this stuff would be nice.

3 - Yes, a dyno really really helps. A wideband too. With just a wideband you can get the afr set where you want it, but the dyno really helps to see what your doing.

i got a question similar as lemondrop. let's say if i wanted an ecu programmed by sr20de with bluebird t25 setup, 370's, stock maf, s3 cams, maybe a few more little stuff. you make a base map that will get the car running, but "maybe" not at it's best? it must be tuned to run good. can it be tuned with an safc or does it have to be with a laptop and software?

the roms in the calumsult computer are reflashable. you get a base map from the libary of maps that are out there. The ecu you recieve will usualy get your car running, as rarely in this community is anyone doing anything different. with that bluebird setup, its pretty common, there is likely to be a map set out there.

you then to tune it, take it to a dyno and put a wide band on it. to tune you reflash the roms. you CAN use a safc but as with most black boxes...not the best results happen...but i digress. you change your maps in fuel and ignition and reburn the roms. if you leave the lid off the ecu and have it laying loose, you can easily pull the roms to reflash them, flashing takes about 5 seconds per rom. Make your changes and restart the car on the new map and run again.
