Calum?

Would you please give me some info? I would at least like to know if you still want to do the ecu for my car, and if so how much it will be.

Heh I know that. What you don't know is that I've emailed him a few different times and responded to some local stuff that he should've seen, and yet I hear nothing. We are somewhat local to each other and talked about my computer person to person as it will be "custom".

Aaron: I'd really like to do a nitrous ecu for you (and Ben in MJ). Let me see if I can work on that this weekend. I can set you up a regular ecu in the meantime no problem. Do you have an extra core?

Everyone else: I'm sorting throught the giant e-mail stack this evening.

Hah didn't get this email before I replied to your post on the mailing list. I don't have a core right now but can get one if you'd like. I'm not worried about a normal one for now, since I do already have the JWT. I was just wanting to know if you were still interested or not. Now I know that you are. Let me know if you have any questions about the nitrous or the way I have it setup. Keep me posted if you make any progress this weekend.

Sorry about being annoying

Yea, actually I was going to ask you, how do you have your nitrous wired? What triggers what?

Well for now, the stock cruise button arms it, and I have a wot switch that activates it. If it's easier for you to do the ECU some other way, it can all be rewired.

I had to rewire it. Now there is a normal on/off switch that is inline with the WOT swictch.

Do you think you could make it stop spraying at 7k rpms? Sort like a built in window switch?

Ok got another question for you. How much do the JWT ecu's normally advance timing? I've had to turn the timing down pretty damn far to use the direct port kit.

Would you be able to post some details about the nitrous and motor setup you are using?

Calum, are you going to make the ecu pull timing like JWT does?

If you're talking about me, it's just a nitrous express direct port kit, on a bone stock motor with the mods in my sig. Actually I think all of that is in my sig lol.

Well this has been my dilema: I can roll something really quickly thats a simple switched map based timing retard. That works and is nifty and all, but theres just too much temptation to do something so much slicker... Its a tradeoff though, simple and cheap vs slick and not so cheap. I can't really do both because the cost of getting a large board run done for each is prohibitive. Thoughts? Which would you guys prefer?

This is what I want to put on a general purpose 'controller' daughterboard (think daughterboard with brains). Think controlling nitrous, VE solenoids, etc.
-consult-on-board
-usb connection for consult and to controller
-4 switchable maps
-2 output drivers minimum (maybe 4?), and use an external box to control high-current solenoids like nitrous solenoids
-PWM control on the drivers (for progressive nitrous control)
-rpm input
-speed input
-extra analog inputs

Anything else? I think doing a 'kitchen sink' approach where you could use the board for all kinds of uses would be cool. I'll open source the code for the controller so you guys can develope your own custom applications.

Or just stick with the simple and cheap approach?

What would be the cost on a board like that?

$200-250. In just raw materials it will add maybe $25ish on top of what a consult-on-board db costs, but the assembly time will be more. It depends on how much stuff is actually stuffed on there. Whats really important? What makes it a worthwhile product?

Directly the board should be able to drive relays (thus do a basic nitrous or cam switching control), but to do the progressive nitrous will require an extra box. I estimate cost of the extra box at $100.

Personally I would just like a simple design that switches maps to a less aggressive timing map when the nitrous is engaged. There probably are a lot of guys who would like all the other stuff. I would make a separate thread and poll for it to see what's wanted more. I would love the progressive control though.

Good idea, I'll setup a poll tomorrow.

For a simple board, is the consult-on-board important to you? Or would you prefer this bundled with the basic board? Is low cost the dominant factor?

If I bundle a basic map switcher circuit that supports on-the-fly switched (not just a simple toggle switch) it will add $25 (total) to either board (consult-on-board or basic, so $130 and $180 final prices respectivly). If I do a basic switched it will only support two maps (for example on nitrous and regular); this keeps the programming simple (doing 4 maps means using the odd/even style that is a little more confusing to some people).

The consult-on-board is a really nice feature. Since i have never really messed with maps before i would like the toggle switch better because it's easier. What are some of the advantages of using four maps?
