Connection cable?

Hey Calum I've aquired an old laptop, and I'm trying to see if it'll work good enough to use for your software. I'm trying to use the old box that I bought from you a few years ago. Only thing is I can't find a cable anywhere local to connect it to the laptop. I'm assuming I can use a serial to serial cable or a serial to USB cable, but can't seem to find either. There's plenty on ebay but I'm hoping somebody could tell me a local place to find one.

Well I found a serial to serial cable here, and the laptop won't connect to the ecu. Is there something special I need to do? I'm trying to use the Conzult freeware thing.

Hey Aaron, I'll be in Nashville sometime in the not too distant future, maybe I can troubleshoot it?

Cool let me know, and I'll come see ya. I'll be messsing with it some more today. Just seeing if this laptop will work, so I can just get the new ecu you've made and then I can just change the timing when I get to the dragstrip for the nitrous.

I can't get it to detect any of the com ports. It only lets me choose com1 and when I try to open it, it says it's unable to open the com port, win error 5. I think the cable I'm using is for a printer or something if that matters. I did check the consult plug with a voltage meter and there is a signal there. Just not sure why it's not wanting to work together.

I'm confused. Your laptop has no serial port, right? Just usb? What are you plugging into it? I've got extra usb-serial adapters btw if you need one.

Yeah I've tried all sorts of stuff and it'll only show com1 as a choice.

Would the cable being for a printer have any ill effect?
