Even if you bought it, you couldn't register it to drive it on the street. It's the seatbelt thing (do a search on the Transport Canada web site for more info).
Wait a few years. Cars that are 15 years and older can be imported ok.
that car was registered in canada, it was owned by a former resident of toronto. he had the seatbelt and DRL modded back in 96.
anyways, doesn't matter.
spnx, plz clear your mailbox
yeah, but i dont understand, why can't you jsut put the seatbelts from a canadian market sentra into an SE-R ? that seems really really easy, and it would correct the problem completely

sure there's a point. they don't want you to try to modify the seatbelt, screw up installing the new one and then die in a crash because of a faulty seatbelt. You just mad and you're letting it effect your thinking. don't worry though only 3 years

Seems to me to be a little harsh. Quest mini vans came with motorized seat belts, so did some Maxima's in Canada. If I remenber correctly some 2 door GM products had seatbelts in the doors. (grand am, cavalier, sunbird). But Oh well. Here's a thought (might be crap but you never know), The ruling states that the seatbelts mountings cannot be modified right??? Does that mean you just can't weld your own, or some thing else. It seems to me that the XE 2 door chassis here in Canada didn't have the in door seat belts. Do you think Nissan had two seperate chassis?? I don't think so, so in theory there should be factory seatbelt mounts in the 'B' pillar. One at the floor, one at the shoulder. A set of Canadian spec belts in the proper Canadian mounting locations and Voila, SE-R in Canada.( Of course a licensed Nissan Tech would have to do the swap). HeHe.
Maybe some of our US friends can tell us if the mounts are there or not
Or am I off My rocker???

Importing a US car into Canada is a b!tch. I bought a 200sx SE-R 2weeks ago and its still sitting in detroit. why?
1)you need a recall letter from nissan north america stating that the car has no recalls
2)you need the title to be cleared and stamped by USA customs before you can even bring it across the border(Ohio has a law that you must change the registration before taking the title. So basically we drove the car from Cincinatti and had to wait one week and a half to recieve the title throught the mail).USA customs holds the title for 3days to run checks that the car is not stolen or has any leins on it.
3)Bring the car across the border pay gst at the border plus excise tax for air conditioning($100) and RIV program fee $182. Get a visual inspection at the border.
4)Federal inspection at canadian tire free(included in the RIV fee)
5)Cert/e-test
6)Register and Ministry of Transportation and pay PST.
Oh yea, somewhere along the lines you have to mail off some papers and wait for papers. Some other bullsh!t we haven't gone through yet. But mostly this applies to cars under 15yrs. So importing a classic you will have to do all minus the RIV prog.
That probably isnt going to happen most JDM GTI-Rs are off the road but you probably would have some luck finding one from the UK or Australia, you might even beable to get a JDM GTiR from one of these countries if it matters that much to you
