A little background on the car: . The SR20 from the GTi-R has a stock CR of 8.3:1, is setup transversely (for FWD & AWD), comes with a Garrett T28 ball bearing turbo, and, arguably the best part, comes standard with individual throttle bodies.
We did the swap a couple years ago and on the maiden voyage it was determined that the motor (from Japan) was f'd (motor was far beyond gone). The car was torn down and the motor was slowly rebuilt over then next two years. The block (mint) was re-honed and resurfaced along with the crank (resurfaced). A good used head was found which was cleaned and resurfaced as well.
The Good:
- All engine gaskets replaced
- Cometic Head Gasket
- ARP Headstuds
- ITB's are fully balanced
- Front Mount IC w/2.5" piping & t-bolt clamps
- Authentic HKS blow off valve/ Factory re-circ too
- 440cc injectors
- Walbro 255fuel pump
- Polyurethane motor mount inserts
- 2.5" down pipe and custom exhaust with turbo muffler (sounds awesome)
- High flow cat included but not installed
- AutoMeter Boost and Oil pressure gauges with dual gauge pod
- Greddy turbo timer
- LSD 5 speed transmission with upgraded axles
- Stage 1 Street/strip clutch
- Upgraded ECU programmed to eliminate speed limiter, raised rev, timing and fuel slightly adjusted for WOT
- Whiteline springs, new and never installed (about a 1"-1-1/4" drop)
- Falken tires
- USB to consult cable with software included (used for data logging and diagnostics)
The Bad:
- The motor has not been broken in yet (about 100 miles since rebuild) so the compression is low; 125psi on three cylinders, 105psi on the fourth.
- Rotors will need to be replaced (Rusted from sitting).
- Has small power steering leak
- The shell is in decent shape, but it is a '91. There is some rust on the rockers that has been stopped but the body work does need to be finished.
This car is going to make such a freakin' sweet daily driver or auto-x car, it just needs some attention. As it sits, it runs and drives perfectly fine, it just needs to be broken in and maybe a slight tune. With a seriously minimal amount of effort this car could be an incredible sleeper.
Asking price is $2800 OBO. A spare head will be included if sold at asking price.
