Lower Control Arm Braces

After an unsuccesful attempt at using a Cusco 4 point lca brace: http://www.sr20forum.com/general-sr2...ml#post2110438
I was motivated to install my Progress 3 point brace. I have had this in a box since the group buy over a year ago. Installation was actually pretty easy, since I already had the car on the lift to remove the battle scarred Cusco unit. Used a tripod to support the crossmember, and and attached the center bracket using the crossmember rear support bolts.

Kimmie took that pic laying on the floor looking straight up.
Adjusted the end links as instructed and used the new longer lca bolts and locknuts provided by Progress.

Clearance is good around my wrapped 2.5" downpipe. You can see the Progress front sway bar and lca brace almost touching the header on both top and bottom. Clearance would be better without the wrap, but it still just clears by about 1/4" on both top and bottom. I think a 3" downpipe might rub, I'll post up pics when I finish my SE-R. It will have a VE with one of Charles headers which has a 3" collector.

No chance of road interference here

Even though I sell Cusco products, if you have a B13 I can't see any reason to go with any other lower control arm brace than the Progress piece.

Wow, never realized that the Progress piece tucked so nicely behind the crossmember. Good luck trying to squeeze the Freak Header through the gap ***...

Though the forces on that brace will be higher than those that affix to the front of the control arm bolts, it's a pretty decent compromise of functionality vs. clearance!

Joe, do you still have this setup on the NX? If so, does it vibrate in the higher RPM range?

Joe,

I've got the Progress LCAB.

Have you upgraded your exhaust hangers (Kartboy, Nismo) to help with the clearance issue?

I upgraded to Nismo hangers and got a ton of clearance with my 2" SSAC, which rubbed/vibrated before I replaced the hangers.

With the upgraded and much stiffer Nismo hangers, I have at least 1/2", maybe 3/4" clearance all around my secondary.

I would *guess* that clearance will be tight with a 3" secondary, but will still fit. Key word "guess."

I have no lower brace on either of my cars right now. There is no chance a 3" will clear. I have someone working on a possible solution and will post more information as it becomes available.

The progress LCAB will not clear a 3" downpipe, but I know the whiteline LCAB is supposed to clear. There are some posts that show it clearing, but I don't remember the link.

^There are two designs for the whiteline 4 point brace. One clears and one hugs.

Part # KSB713 = B13/B14 hugs!
Part # ? = RNN14 clears.

^The RNN14 brace can be ran on B13/B14's as well.

^Check out this link. For more info, get into with forum member octotat. I believe he did a group buy on the whiteline braces.

^Here is the old octotat group buy run.

We are trying to get something constructed that won't hang down like the Cusco (or whiteline) did. I bent the sh*t out of mine within a week.

Sorry for slightly off-topic, just tried to help out Benito. It would be nice to have some sort of LCAB made that wouldn't introduce ground clearance issues

Well it looks like there is going to be one or two new solutions. That's good. I might try the progress piece and massage it a bit. Any lcab is going to have ground clearance issues. I had the whiteline for awhile and ditched it when I went turbo mostly to recoup a few bucks. It had a few scrapes but I didn't hit it a lot.
