My suspension project is finally coming together...
Here are some details:
custom strut housings
koni 8610 inserts
ground control threaded sleeves
ERS springs 350/8" front 250/7" rear
custom rear control arms
moog ball joint
fresh tie rods
energy suspension front bushings
GC camber plates
I'll be corner balancing the car and getting an alignment early next week.
Holy crap I just browsed through your gallery that is some very nice stuff you got going on there.Just out of curiosity what did the custom strut housings run you?A write up on how to build that set up would be awesome.Again very nice work.
thanks guys...
the housing were made from 4130 chromoly (mcmaster carr)... the raw material costs werent that much, but I put in a lot of time into making them. I could have pieced them together using combinations of oem style housings, but I wanted to make provisions to run a wider tire in the rear and rear camber adjustment. I'll post my impressions once I get the car on the road/track.
the sway bars are going on right after I corner balance the car.

I'm sorry I didn't copy everyone else's setup. If you need a preacher to tell you what mods to put on your car, the Reverend Veilside180sx might have a suggestion.
How are 8610's a waste of time? My question would be why not 11's?
I think that Richard was referring to the spring rates he using... typically you'd go with a 861X insert (and custom housings) when you go with a spring rate that the OEM based inserts can't handle. just my guess though...
I agree if I were to only run this setup an OEM style koni might have been fine, but I built the housings with an eye to upgrading in the future. The housings are prepped to accept a hole at the bottom for the adjustment on an 8611 insert. I think the 8610's will work well with these springs and will handle many different combos as I play with more agressive rates. This is my first attempt at a custom setup like this so I am taking a conservitive approach.

I made them myself...
I actually built them a while back, but have waited on installing them until my suspension was done...
here is a link to the thread listing my source for the parts: http://www.sr20forum.com/classic-se-...trol-arms.html

Fair enough, that's a good enough answer.
The 8610 is more digressive than the OEM insert as well, which is nice. At least you are planning on moving up the spring rates later...do you plan to eventually cage the car?
I dont think I will cage the car... Its a daily driver when its not being worked on. A a roll bar might be in order since I want to run a harness for next season events.

thanks steve
you gave me a lot of good input on the suspension design!
I kept the trailing arm stock... I was considering using an energy suspension bushing, but I didnt want to buy the entire kit for just the trailing arm parts.
