Falken Ziex ZE-512

Rotated: Every oil change (3000 miles)
Time in service: 1 year 9 months
Miles Driven: 11,821

The car is also properly aligned and pressure was within operating ranges. Just thought I would share before my new tires come in.

How did you like those tires? Were they any good in the rain or snow?

They were ok in the rain at first, but I would not recommend them for snow. Colder temps are fine though. I don't plan on buying another set, ever. I think I just drive a little to hard for them. Still better than the previous Eagle RS-A's.

i have a set on my hx rims. they are good for the price, but seem to wear a little more than what they're rated for. my 195-60-14 are "suppose" to be rated at 60,000 miles, but in i'd say more like 20,000 or so they'll be out. got maybe 10,000 on mine, still has more than half left on fronts, and rears have about 75% left. rotated them and had car aligned so should wear a little bit better. my friend's civic with same tires at 205-50-15 wore out hella quick, so i didn't buy another set for my rotas. i need tires that will last, so i'm trying out other brands and will make my final decision in a year. but so far, tires are great, just a little faster wear and others i seen...

I have 195-50-15's on my Sentra and have driven them for 2 seasons now. When new, wet performance was good but now its not as good if the tire and road temps are low and wet. The tires are hard-ish in the cold, takes some scrubbing and driving to get them warm when cold out, but ride quiet. Dry performance is as good as ever, and they have worn evenly. One even had a gas puddle incident warp the surface of the tread, I cleaned it with soap and now you cant even tell that happened.

of course my car is weaksauce but it has no LSD and even with all that inside tire spin and skip, treadwear is good.

With more power I would want stickier softer rubber. Also the tireguard thing is good to protect your rims but I think it made my tire rub the fenderwell hard since it makes part of it wider?

I nearly bought these tires, but was turned off by the rather mushy sidewalls. I ended up buying Nittos instead, and am quite happy with them, especially the price.

i've got the ze512s on my civic, and at 3k miles, they're showing VERY minimal wear. i drove that car HARD, and they grabbed fine. While i agree the sidewall does seem flimsy, i haven't felt it start to cave, and i'm running a 195/60 on the car. I'm also curious as to how you got the edge of the tread that chewed up. my tires are almost a year old, and still look new.

They held up pretty well on my B13 but hard driving will skin them pretty quick. Good in rain and I only drove it in snow once (to the grocery) so I dunno. I had similar experiece to Cris though. My .02$ best $40 tire out there.

i hear customer after customer bitch about these tires because they will not make it to the mileage warranty. i had a set on my bluebird ser and i wore them out in about 3k.. needless to say i don't recommend these tires to anyone.

true about tire life. they are great tires for the cheap price. 50 series are rated at 30,000 miles, so i'd say 15-20,000 miles most. i hope my 60 series ones will at least hit half of their rated 60,000 miles. they're good tires for the price...

I went through my 195/60/R14's in 5000 miles... I drive hard most of the time but not burnouts every where. My most recent set of 205/60/14's have lasted 10 months and about 10000 miles.

So what is the best UHP all season tire? Our CTS is just about ready for some new tires and it snows at least a few times during the winter here in Albuquerque NM. My fiance has a 20 mile highway commute everyday and last winter she had a frightening experience with the rear Nitto 555's getting squirly on her.

You'd be hard pressed to find a better tire than the 512 for the money they cost. chris, the scrubbing on the sidewall makes it pretty obvious that you drive the sh*t out of them lol!

I used to think this same way...

... until I bought my Kumho SPTs for the MP3.

For a comparable price the SPTs are waaaaay better than the 512s. Better overall grip, road noise, sidewall is stiffer and better feedback as well.

I will not buy another set of 512s now that I have tried the SPTs.

ZE-512 is probably the best for the B13 SE-R wheels as far as a UHP all season goes.

put those tires to the test. .for normal driving i think that their pretty good-the soft side wall helps absorb bumps for those with a stiffy suspension..

Like I said, I passed on the 512s and ordered Nitto NT450s. They fall into the UHPAS category as well. I have about 15000 on mine so far, and they'll probably make 35-40k. They handle pretty well, can tackle snow, and are predictable at the limits. They cost me $204 for 4 of them shipped to my door. Here's a pic when I first got them.

SPT are good tires, but they are SUMMER tires, not All-season. You opened a whole new bag if you wanna compare summer tires...

I didn't think the discussion was only about All Seasons... at least not by the OP...
