vent in back?

I was rustproofing and por-15ing the rear of my car the other day...found a big flap vent thing in the rear passenger 1/4 panel behind the outside panels...what does it do, and mine gives off a ton of road noise. If i seal it off to get more silence in my car, would it ruin something?

Leave it alone, you need that... All cars have to release the pressure that builds up.

i spray foamed mine on the nx shut, i dunno what it was for but the car is quieter. maybe to vent moisture or just air. i had a vw bug that had them too. some cars have them and some don't .
the gxe i have been driving doesn't have them though and i do notice weird suction on my ears when closing the doors or on the highway if only two windows are open passengers don't notice it but it makes me nuts. so on second thought maybe chris/sr/se is right

yes it is to release pressure.................but its not insainly vital, im sure you could seal it up without issue. i never thought about that thing being a cause of road noise. im going to test seal it and see if it has any ill effects, if no ill get a small peice of dynomat and cover it up.

That vent is there to move air out of the cabin. When you turn on your fresh air vent, it's trying to move air into the cabin. If your still alive at this moment, then it's a good bet that there is already air in there. You need to move that air out, to get air in. Unless you want to put a big compressor in place of the fan.

It's like when you put a fan in the window at your house. It doesn't actually start moving air until you open another window.

You should leave it just the way it is...

yeah and also so when you slam your doors shut they dont bounce back (not that they would, its not that airtight) but lets the air displace properly. Same reason there is holes in the ba13 at the very back of deck lid, to let air exchange with trunk, and let trunk flaps release air out.
