Is it in yet? (axle pics)

Axle Pics

So this is as far as I've been able to get the driver's side axle in on my 93 NX 5spd.

Is it in yet?

I *thought* I heard a click when it finally slid home but I also dropped the hammer at the same time so I'm not positive where the noise came from. There is about a "pinkie's-width" of space between the edge of the joint and the tranny. The seal itself is not flush with the edge of the hole it's in. It's back about 1/4".

thanks.

edit: In one final search of desparation, I found this link. I believe I'm ok but I'm exhausted and not thinking straight so a confirmation would be just peachy.

I think you already know the problem with this; hard to tell with the pics, but it appears the seal has been driven in too far to the tranny housing. If you look at the end of the axle that goes in, there is a metal cup, that basically is meant to surround the dust lip on the seal, affording the seal itself more protection. Because this seal is driven in so far, you may experience leakage issues with this axle. You might wish to take a chance, and give it a shot, or spend the few bucks on another one if it can't be salvaged.

To answer your original question, the axle is probably fine; it's the seal that's making it look not right.

Yeah the pics sucked so I tried to take a few of them in hopes it would compensate. They should really have designed the trannies so the seal wouldn't go in that far.

I twisted, and slide-hammered, and hammered, etc etc that axle for about an hour and a half. Finally I yanked it back out (partially) and shoved it back in...CLICK it pops right in. I guess I wasn't holding my mouth right. I dread to think I'll have to go through that again this evening. ::shivers::

Damn car beat me to death yesterday. I can feel it this morning. lol
