crushed two wheel bearings??? huh?

Anyways the ABS axle has a ring around the outer joint that is for the sensor. You can knock it off with a hammer and a chisel if you do not have abs in your car.

when i say "crushed" i mean i've distroyed, separated two wheel bearings in as many days could it be that the axle is too long? or is it the abs ring. like i said the car had abs axles on it so i just replaced it with an abs axle. but my question is the 99 axle too long with abs?

yeah my man rob i've read that thread over and over and over before i even went on to purchase my axle, i mean why else would i buy a 99 axle? an educated guess. dog i just got into this nissan stuff a little while ago but i'm familiar with forums. but thanks for attempting to help. what i was asking was there a difference between the length of the abs and non abs axles and also is there a difference between the 98 ser axle and the 99 se axle thats all a simple naw man there the same. or a dont do that man you'll kill your wheel bearings would have sufficed. but perhaps i was vague. sorry i seem like a dick right now but i'm aggravated about my current situation im dealing with pertaining to my car all i need is a couple of qestions answered. thank you

Burkley,

Having or not having ABS will not affect the length of the axle. As others have pointed out, the only difference is the ABS ring, the silver geared ring near the outer end of the axle. You don't even need to remove it, as it interferes with nothing (there is just no geared speed sensor to interface with it). If your axle is not long enough, you won't seat properly in the bearing, and you'll crush it (as you have seen). I am going to guess you have aquired the wrong length due to the differences in the LSD/non-LSD trannys.

You'll need the 98 Non-LSD axle to make it work. This has been done before, and Rob pointed you in the right direction.

he said he has the 99 se axle though, which are the same as the 98's. They are essentially the same length as the lsd axles, but the spline that goes in the trans is shorter because there is no lsd hump on the trans. That extra length is accounted for by an extention in the middle part of the driver side shaft. All the passenger shafts are the same IIRC.

If your crushing bearings possibly you aren't tightening down the axle to the hub all the way, or possibly they were just already old. Were you moving the car around a lot w/o axles in? Did you crush the driver side both times?

yo tokes. thanks man you fully understood what i was saying in my thread i was under the assumption also that the 99 and 98 axles for the se or the ser were identical since the 98-99 didnt come with lsd. so i purchased the 99 one because when i ordered the 98 ser axle from a different company they sent me the same lsd axle. and to answer your question i moved the car about 20 yards with out the axle in the car the first time but the second time i pulled the car into the garage and popped in a totally different knuckle with good wheel bearings in it. let down the jack and pulled out of the driveway and into the other side of my driveway and could hear the bearing getting worked out. lol. man this is killing me i dont know what to do. did they perhaps give me the wrong axle, did i order the wrong one or should i put full coverage on my car and just keep pulling across the highway slowly while sending text messages??????????????
