Suspension Junkies, I need advice on spring height & diam.
So, I have the Truechoice Phase II setup. It includes CSK's; front springs on the coilover setup are 8" tall, 2.25" diam., and 300 spring rate; rears are 10" tall, 2.5" diam., 250 spring rate.
I was having some bottoming out issues, especially in the front following an accident. I sent them in for repair at Truechoice. I got a call that the front springs are worn as if there is coil binding. They recommend going with 2.5" diam, 10" tall, same spring rate to fix the problem. That is, if I am happy with their performance otherwise. They also noted that the inside of the spring on the front is hitting the coilover sleeve (slight rubbing). That's why they want to use 2.5" diam. springs.
This car is daily driven, hard. I have spent a lot having the struts redone, so I hate to cheap out now. Any recommendations or ideas? I think I would like to salvage the rear springs as they seem fine, but I don't want to do this while sacrificing the front b/c I want the springs rates to be with 50 of one another.

I dug up an old pics of the struts, and the ride height on the front was adjusted near max. I think I am going to go with 350f/300r spring rates and 10" tall, 2.5" wide springs on front and rear. Let me know what you think!

If you are going to UP the front rate then you don't need to go with a longer front spring in the 350lb range. Your coil bind was caused by the setup being near max height. So the spring runs out of travel before it hits the bumpstop. If you keep the 300lb spring go with the 10 inch setup. It's my favorite setup. But anything in the 350lb range is fine with a 8 inch spring if you don't set the front too high. You can ask them for the coil bind height (of any spring, it's good to have that info) and just make sure you set the front heights so that it hits the bumpstop before the spring coilbinds. Your one of the few with the oppisite problem of most. It's a good problem to have in some ways (because it means you have lots of travel) but you need to get your bumpstops to work. Koni makes a longer bumstop that would probably have solved the issue as well. I will help you through this stuff if you like as there are a lot of variables

THANKS! After looking at the old pics, I think I am going 10", 2.5" spring in the front for sure. There is PLENTY of adjustment left to do that. The ride quality was a very healthy mix of driveability and stiffness after the 300f,250r's aged 100k miles. I don't think 350f/300r is a big step up. I do daily drive the car, but I am one of the few people who corners hard on the street every day! I want great side, but I also don't want to take corners with small drainage low spots or man whole covers and bottom out. I also need to fix the rubbing of the sleeve on the inside of the spring, and 8" eibachs don't come in 2.5" diam. as far as I know. I see your point on the coil binding being caused by maxing out the adjustment, but I think if I stay with 8" and go with 350s, it will happen again. they sagged before, and I had to readjust ride height; the 350s will sag too, and I'll be right back to max adjustment again.
Additionally, if I stay with 300f/250r, do you think I should replace the rear springs with the same ones just for good measure. The spring rates between old and new ar bound to be different.

Only problem with the 10 inch is you will need enough room to adjust it lower in the front with the 350lb rate. If you have plenty of room it will be fine.

I meant that, over time the spring rate, sag, etc. changes And with new 300's up front and old 250's in the rear, the difference will be more than 50, or less depending on what theory you believe. It is 150 per set of springs, though. so, it's not like the money difference is nothing.

Good springs don't change over time is the theory. Spings allowed to coil bind will change.
I can't see a meaningfull thing in that picture. To far away.
Many people sell springs like Hyperco and Eibach for $60
Ok, it's a done deal. I called and talked to their head tech. He said the rears look fine, and there is no reason to replace them based on mileage alone. I went with 10" tall, 2.5" diam., 300 spring rate on the fronts, and I kept the rears the same (10" tall, 2.5" diam., 250 spring rate. I can't wait to get these back on and boost my brains out. Thanks for the input!
Also, I am a big guy; 250+. And like to drive hard with a passenger. Does that change your suggestion on what spring rate?
Springs are normally 55-65 Each in a straight rate 2.5 inch size. Look around. You sound like you want to jump up in rate. Only you can decide. B14's stay comfortable (IMO) up to the 400 lb front rate. Only issue is you really need a strut that can handle that rate. I don't know what Koni insert they are using.
