Odd clicking noise under hard acceleration

Hey folks.

Well I have had a pair of shortened spec v Konis up front now for about a year, which have been great to me so far. Recently (Last few months) whenever I am accelerating in first gear and punch it, I get a single hard click. This happens regardless of whether I am in a straight line or coming out of a turn.

The Konis are mounted in oem housings and served the previous owner fine. I have GC coil-over's on them right now, and I have noticed the springs are touching the GC sleeve, which would be my only real indication towards a noise.

The bearings are fine up front too, as I replaced them when I put in the suspension with OEM units. The coils make no binding noises when parked and turning. It's only under 1st gear pulls that it makes the singe clicking noise. Anyone had this particular problem before? The car is lowered no more then 1.5 from stock if not less.

OEM axles in good shape, less then 1 year old ball joints, and I also put in Whiteline caster bushings this summer and aligned the car at my work.

Any ideas would be great.

Dudeman

check the bracket that holds the passenger side axle might be a little loose.

A click/knocking noise under acceleration is usually the rear motor mount.

Both great suggestions. I will have to check it out sometime this week and I will post back with anything I find out. I do have full prothanes installed so hopefully nothing is amiss.

i didn't think it was the motor mount since you did not mention anything about your shifter moving on acceleration and deceleration.

Very true. I have not really ruled out anything. I might have time after my classes are over tonight to pop the car up on some jack stands and have a gander.

With very new prothanes I highly doubt it is my mounts. I have every shifter mod I can get right now, and the shifter moves very little when going from coast to hard power in lower gears. Passably 1/8th of an inch at most.

I have noticed the car has not been shifting great though, but I have attributed that to the b&m shifter, which feels great, but grinds if I try and shift quickly. Never used to do that....(redline mt90 btw)

The one piece of doubt that it is an axle or mount, is it ONLY makes the noise when going in first gear, or rarely if I am turning hard in second. If it was loose wouldn't it crack in every gear?

I wish I had the $$ to get some real coilovers and rule out my suspension!
