Will this work? Need solution for new tires + rims rubbing :\

I had 205/55/15 BFG KDW tires from my old car, and I wanted to reuse them on my new NX.

So I bought a set of Drag DR-23 rims (Rota Slipstream copies) in a 15x6.5, 40 offset.

Yeah, the back tires rub hard on the bottom spring seat of the strut assembly. The side of the tire seems to have enough clearance. I didn't even lower the car off the jack. I even tried a 1/4" spacer, and that STILL didn't get the tire far enough away from the spring seat.

As far as I can see, I have 2 options;
1) Get a 10-15mm spacers with longer studs
2) Get 205/50/15 tires all around

I would rather get the spacers because when I replace the tires, I'd still have the rear sitting wider and stuffing the wheel wells nicely. Plus it's a lot less expensive than replacing the tires lol.

My questions:
Will the fronts rub when cornering with the 205/55/15's I have on now?
Are B13 wheel bearings known for not liking spacers?

Thanks guys!

just get some spacers.

although i dont know why its rubbing. i run 15x7 with a wider tire on agx's and hypercoils and i have no rubbing issues.

It's not the width of the tires that's rubbing, it's the height. I dont doubt that a 205/50 or a 225/45 will fit fine... but it's the height that's hitting the base of the strut spring perch... the tire doesn't touch the body of the strut at all.

I already tried 2x 1/8" spacers (so 7mm in total) on one wheel, and I know I'd need more, easily 10mm and more likely 15mm to clear well.

I'm going to go with a 205/50/15 tire to solve the issue. I realized that there's no point in wasting $$$ on a 15+mm spacer.

I'm going to get the Hankook RS2 Z212's in a 205/50/15 put on hopefully today, and then hopefully, get the whole package on the car today too

My acceleration will improve because of the shorter tire too, and my speedo will be almost spot on.

So I got 205/50/15 Hankook RS2 Z212's put on, and it runs pretty good. I have 3mm (1/8") spacers on the rear, nothing up front, and I only get a bit of rubbing on full lock turns. The rear tire is very close to the strut body, but there's plenty of distance between it and the spring perch.

They're quite sticky and the car feels good

One thing you could do as well is take a dremel tool and grid away a portion of the Shock/Strut seat where the tire is potientally rubbing. A while back they did that with the KYB AGX/GC set up- Since there is no spring seat hanging over to rub theres more room.

Haha that would prolly be a bad idea :P

What I did end up doing is getting the Hankook RS2's in a 205/50/15, on the 15x6.5 Drag DR23's 40mm offset, with a 3mm spacer on the back.

The back is still pretty close to the strut, but it never rubs on the strut body. Not even close to the spring perch. The front rub only a big under extreme angle slow-speed turning, never during normal and hard turns or while parking.

The package weighs about 35lbs according to my scale, which is pretty much exactly what the stock 14" NX2k rims + 185/60/15 cheezo winter tires weighted.

The grip of the tires is awesome! They grip the wet like its dry, and even through very heavy rain, the car is still plenty able to go through it at 100kmh. Dry performance is awesome too, but because of their relatively high void area, im sure that something like the RT615's or RE01R/RE11R's would be better. In any case, im very happy with them as a high po summer only daily driver tire. I'll try to get some pics of the wheels up soon.

tire height is a problem on lowered SE-Rs? i have a set of 17x7 with 225/45s that fit awesomely on my '95 accord, but i'm wondering if i'll have the same issues as you did on my b14...mines dropped on KYBs and eibachs.

VERY clean NX!

but, i have to dissagree with hippo. you need spacers in the rear, to try to get flush before you get a real "aggresive stance"

but to each his own

Yeah I agree its a nice looking car but the rear looks under-tired. I like to see the rears almost flush with the wheel lips. I ran 15x7 +30 with 5mm spacers on my NX and it still wasn't enough. Some 15x8 6ULs or Rota RBs with 225-45-15 would be awesome on an NX.

I agree with both you guys. I'd love to have 225's on 7.5's or 8's on the back of the car... but unfortunately I'm selling the car now
