Spacers or new wheels

HELP
Ive been outside putting on my agx/rm combo.
and I have 17x7.5 wheels with 215/40/17 (with spacers already on rear, size unknown(about width of 14mm wrench, on the side))

The problem is that the tires are rubbing the lower spring mount on the strut.

I guess I can either get bigger spacers, or get a different rim with more offset.

Ideas?

I have the same rims on my car,but 15 inch with 35 offset.I run 205/50-15 with no rubbing whatsoever.I am on hyperco/agx setup.
I did add a 15mm spacer on the rear to set the wheels out even with the front.I also rolled the fender lip while i was at it...I am hoping to go a little wider on my next set of tires.

If you can afford new wheels I would go 15 or 16.That will solve the clearance probs,as well as lose some unsprung weight at all four corners.
Tire selection is better in the smaller sizes too.
Looks like you would need a 25mm rear spacer to clear....then you may rub on the outside(you may need to roll the fenders if it is not already.

It wouldnt solve the problem, the rims dont touch, its the tires width.

If i got 15 or 16 rims the tires I got would get 215/50 tires.
and i would still have the same problem.

I need offset.
Adding a spacer is bringing the hub closer to the center. (in my case subtracting offset)

Can you take a picture of your clearance?
Whats the width of your rims?
Thanks!

mine complites are 15x7 ,with 35 offset, and I am running 205/50-15 with a ton of clearance. The rear was close to rubbing the strut body without the spacers, but it was not close to rubbing the spring perch like yours.

I believe that the total diameter of you tires is your problem, not the width.
With a 17 inch tire, even 40 series you are taller than say a 16 inch 40 series tire.
Tearoffguy has 205/40-16 on a 16x7 wheel with 38 offset on his nx.It is close, but fits with no rubbing anywhere with no spacers. He is also running hyperco/agx on his nx.
You are like an inch taller than that,if you figure it out.
Go to tirerack I think they have a wheel size calculator that will show you the difference in total rolling diameter.
You will definately have a little shorter gearing with a shorter tire, which probably is not a good thing with that monster under your hood.
I thought you had a p11 tranny so that will help.

Its funny after looking at my car everyday, your wheels look HUGE to me.I bet my wheels look weird to you..haha
I am sure you know my car is black as well so they look alot alike.
Mines my daily so its way tamer than your beast...lol

I will have to take pics of the strut clearance tomorrow.(today, lol)
Heres a couple pics of the fender profile from when I put the spacers on.

14" x 6" wheel with 40mm offset, 59mm center bore, 4x100mm bolt pattern.

Good luck, but I think new smaller rims might be the way to go.

rims are too pretty to change , H&R has a spacer kit that comes with extended studs so does Eibach. the link is just how they would look, but it comes up to 1"

The problem is that you're running a 215 width tire which is causing the rubbing. Going to a 205/40/17 should solved the problem with use of the current spacers.

Looks like you need either 10-15mm of spacing in the rear, or 215/35 or 205/40 tires. It'll still be really close with 205/40 tires though.

I had the same issue with 205/55/15 tires, not a chance of fitting. Massive rubbing on the spring perches. I had to buy 205/50/15 tires instead.

Im going to throw another 5mm spacer in back and call it a day. (until the alignment guy says otherwise, depending on how bad the camber might be off)
I drove around the yard and the rubbing on the rear cant be heard or felt.

but have to get a impact gun to tighten the rear struts(piston just turns) down.

my boy is 100% correct! Take it to a 205 and you should have no clearance issues. Spacing the tires out is not going to solve our problems. I'm running a 16x9 et15 wrapped in 215/40/16 tires with zero rub issues. My wells are rolled of course
