I'm sick of this....

Alright well after some mysterious noises a few weeks ago, and as per the advice here, I replaced the engine mounts. They were in pretty bad shape, but now that sound is back! After spending an hour in the country trying to pinpoint when this happens, it happens mainly at 2nd gear with what is pretty much a soft-shift(very little gas going into it). Should note- that noise is pretty much a metallic *thunk-clunk* (great description, huh?) I can also feel it when it happens. Is this possibly the "chatter" I've heard common with puck disks?(Yeah I know, I didn't know about the forum when I put that in. As soon as funds come to me, I'm switching back to a full disc ASAP!) I'm honestly out of ideas though as to what this is;engine, motor, clutch flywheel, god hating me? Any knowledge here is more than appreciated.

Wow, kinda suprising that it looks like almost everyone is stumped with this. If it helps any, I've found if I gas out a little more than i regualarly would for the upshift from 1st to 2nd, it really doesn't occur, also when downshifting into 2nd there isn't any difficulties either.

Yeah, I read the post and couldn't think of anything substantial to contribute. [duncecap]

However, a small problem I've had with my passenger side mount (Energy Suspension full insert) is that the bolts liked to back out after a while.

Also, if you bought an OE replacement passenger side mount, those just plain suck. With autocross and various motorsports driving, I could buy a new one every year. ES inserts in your new mounts or pressing full Protane mounts into your old housings wouldn't be a bad idea.

If you have a aftermarket exhause (bigger OD) it might be hitting the sway bar

Well, I wish I could help more than I can. What I would do if I were you, is
1) search like a mofo
2) fix anything you already KNOW is wrong with the car, and eliminate anything easy first. If you know the clutch you have is prone to having issues, maybe that's a place to start (I know you said you're working on that one....)

Is there ANYTHING else you know is an issue with the car? Super stiff clutch, hard to shift, broken speedo, leaking tranny fluid, ANYTHING?

Well, thats just weird.

Alright so I landed this job at a Nissan dealership. Me and a tech were working late, and decided to give my car a lookover. Now this just confounded me, there was a giant gash on the underside of the hose that goes to the KN filter. We.....requistioned....the part from the parts dept. and switched it. It doesnt make that noise or have the hesitation and slippage that was occuring. Weirdest damned thing.....coulda swore the clutch was going. But once we fixed that, took it around the test track and I think he wet himself when I hit that corner at 60mph. (And to anyone who says you cant drift a FWD car.....try to explain that one to me..) But thanks for the help guys, but who the hell woulda thunk that one?!?!
