Hey ya'll, I need help...please read

Hey--I'm a newbie here, and I'm just about to purchase a '92 Sentra SE-R from a guy I know. The car is in great condition, but the only catch is that it does have 5th gear pop-out, which he said is a simple fix if I replace the rear motor-mount, which is broken right now. I drove the car and I could definitely tell that the motor mount needs replacement because of how much vibration there was. Is the motor-mount a common cause of 5th gear pop-out, or is is something more serious? I trust the guy because I know him, but at the same time I want understand what I'm getting into if I buy it.

your replies are much appreciated

Nate

idk about the motor mount causing it, but depending on the price i would buy it and get a new tranny. you can have jgy fix your 5th gear pop out but i forget how much it is. www.jgycustoms.com

5th gear pop-out is from accelerating in 5th gear and putting to much strain on it. Get some ES inserts.

You're gonna need to have the tranny fixed, or get a new/used one. Search on "B13 transmission", "5th gear popout", or any variation on that search theme. Then you can figure out which is the best option, repair or replace, for you.

Do NOT have your local "transmission experts" at Shop X fix your tranny. It will be ungodly expensive, and you'll be lucky if they do it right. Ask me how I know.....

For motor mounts, search on "ES", "Prothane" (hands down, the best mount for the money), "Place Racing+mount", or "JWT+mount", and once again any combination of those terms.

If i am not mistaken "5th gear pop out" is when the shifter comes out of 5th when accelerating or cruising...On my old SE-R the rear motor mount was completelly shot and when i let off the gas the shifter would pop outta 5th...Does yours pop out when you are accelerating/cruising or when you let off the throttle while cruising???

Mine does it occasionally, sometimes it does it when cruisin or under light accerlation. Ive hit 15psi in 5th gear with no problems and sometimes it pops when im going 50mph under no acceleration. I would invest in a b15 tranny especially if you are planning on boosting the car in the future.
