BACK FIRING...??

well my ser is backfiring really wierd....if i throttle my car all the way to 6g rpm and shift to second it would backfire like booooom and then picks up again...
but i messed around with the timing on the ditrubuter...is this a good thing??
but when i power shift their is no back fire, the only backfire that happens is around 5g to 6g....just curious, i think my car is shooting flames too?...
i wouldn't want my exhuast vavles to get fried now?....all i have is header and intake and 2.0 custom piping and also with a missing bolt on my headers ...
but even with the missing bolt on their it stills backfire....

Its like the misfiring system hahahhahhah, but just wanna know if any one else has the same problem? or know if its bad or good

Did you 'mess' with your timing the correct way? Maybe you over advanced or retarded the timing way too much? Get a timing light and check your timing AFTER you put it in timing mode. If you don't know how to do it, check the technical information library and do it before you fu*k up your motor.

i hear back firing noises when i let off at high RPM as well... but no flames YET. i heard someone saying its just extra fuel thats being dumped which is causing it. so i got a FPR and no longer does the problem exsist

I don't hear of N/A SR20's really backfiring unless they are running cams or a catless straight through exhaust system. What exactly did you do to the distributor? Did it backfire before you messed with it?

no it never backfire when i got it...
nothing much.....but advance it, and then retard it and then advanced it again...
its sounds safe...its not like a really scary nasty backfire, its more of a smooth
BLAAP and VROOOOOOOM, BLAAAAP , VROOOM,,,, but the backfring does stop..
but the car does run a littel more powerful may be like 2-3hp more around 5k-6700rpm.....

NO IDEL AT ALL too.....REALLY STRANGE?

Check for exhaust leaks.

Are you blowing any smoke out the back? When it's idling check the tailpipe for traces of white smoke or the smell of gas. If so, you're running rich (too much fuel). Could be the timing adjustments you made or leaky injectors.

Do you have a resonator? My car backfires VERY loud when i'm getting on it and then release the gas pedal. Happens around 5,000rpm's as well. Sounds normal if you are running larger piping/more free flowing exhaust.
