Hesitation...

Well, I got the JDM motor running pretty good. I have a Stillen POP charger, intake pipe, SSAC header, 2.5'' cat, 2.5'' cat back. Now, the car seems to not pull as hard as it used to. I don't know what could be causing this. I know I have an exhaust leak where I have a sh*tty weld near my cat. It is barely holding on and leaks bad. Could this be the source of the hesitation. It seems to pull strong until 4,500. After that it feels like 500 pounds just hit my trunk. Now, I tried out my car to see if the gas light works and it got so low to the point where it is now on. Could the bad gas and 17* timing be the issue? I can't think what the issue is. I'll have to try new plugs.

first off running you're car low on gas is bad for the pump it uses fuel to help cool it, secondly i'd do a leakdown test and comp test to see if new motor has good internals. From there you can start looking at ignition, ANY exhaust leak can cause a lack of power.

Well the car pulled very strong until I had the issues with the exhaust. The motor seemed to test good for compression when we first put it in but I will get a compression tester and see what results I get. I hope I get solid numbers across the board.

Lol, thanks man. I have a feeling the sh*tty weld on my cat is giving out and about to break off from the piping by the way the car feels. Can't wait for the weekend, going to get everything done nicely like I should have done in the first place. Another guess is that the plugs may have gone bad since the car seems to run rich, I am not sure if the O2 sensor is good or not.

I have a feeling it might be the plugs. I need to run out and get some new NGK's and see if theres a difference. Car was running real hard until yesterday and today.

Let us know what happens. I think i may be having a similar problem, my car dosnt feel as strong as it use to under 4500. Just installed ssac header 2.5, cat and cat back piping is 2.25. Before i had a cracked 4-1. also i think there is a small leak where the down pipe meets the cat, although i cant feel much when i put my hand under/above the flanges.

I would just start replacing vac lines. A pinhole crack can really make the car act up. Check the pcv hose first. Have you cleaned out the aacv valve? Check plugs / gap?

Also you might wanto replace the O2 sensor. I was having similar problems and the new O2 made a major difference. If your exhaust is backfiring/ poping at all this might be an indication.

The car does backfire and pop around 4,000 rpm's when I let off the throttle. I just assumed it was because of no resonator and not I hear it popping out of the leak. Seems like the O2 sensor was it. I put in some 93 today and the car seems to pull way harder. 1st gear seems to just break loose way easier. I am going to check my timing and check the valves you said. I will check the plugs tomorrow as I am very hesitant to check them right now in my driveway because its about 10* outside. Waiting on word from my boy to see if I can use the shop for a few hours tomorrow and try to sort out the issues. Whats this I hear the O2 sensor doesn't matter when you are full throttle because its "open loop/cycle" or something like that. I'm going to change it and see if there is any difference.
