Speed Sensor

i have a 91, and the speedo doesnt work. i searched the forums and nothing came up. it has been this way since i swapped motors. i think the speed sensor is bad, becuase if you stick it in the hole and tighten it down, it doesnt spin. i did this while on jacks and accelerated through 3rd gear and nothing. i have a spare tranny layin around and tried to get that one out. its a pain in the ass. is there any easy way to replace it. please let me know. or if that isnt the problem, let me know what it could be. thanks
-Sam

91's have a cable I beleive? Undo the speedo cable, and get a drill. Hook the drill into the tip of the cable and spin it(dont remember if its counter clockwise). Have someone look at the speedy and check if it works. Make sure you don't pull on the center piece of the speedo cable. If your speedo moves, your the gear on the tranny is bad. If it doesnt move, then your speedo cable is bad but it shouldnt since you said it worked before you swapped your motor. Just change the gear from your old trans.

easy way to get it out is pry a little with something flatter than a screwdriver (i used an old butter knife) then wrap wire underneath it and yank. you wont break the flange off this way.

yea, i tried it with a different cluster too, and it still didnt work. all i need to do it take the old sensor out of the tranny and put the other one in, right? i know the other one i have works, so im hoping thats all i need to do. i tried to get the one out of the spare tranny, and its a bitch. i stopped trying because i didnt want to break it. how like is it to break if i just keep prying and yanking on it. im not gonna go crazy on it, but im defenitely gonna use some force. thanks

Its not a sensor it is a cable i had the same problem when i replaced my clutch if you reach to the back of the tranny from engine compartment you should be able to unscrew the cap that hold the wire in place pull cable out and and check for kinks or if it is frayed if looks good put it back in make sure it sits in cluster right by doing the drill thing prev. mentioned
