Get a light for like 30 bucks at sears... or auto-zone or something.

Back in the day people used to do that and listen for ticks, but wouldn't you feel better and less paranoid if you did it correctly? Especially on your baby? Your pride and joy? No...

Get a light dammit!

In short, no. You hardly ever need to use the thing with one car, don't need a $400 Snap on, go to Harbor Freight and get their cheap one.

I always use an old Sears timing light that my brother has. Nothing special but does the job to let me read the timing marks. Don't try and advance without the light.

^x2.

12 bux at Harbor Freight. It'll be good enough...

Consider it $12 insurance that you do it right.

do not buy the cheap timing gun at harbor freight. it sucks. the light that flashes is not even bright at all. i cannot even see it during the day and barely, i mean barely, see it at night. i tried using it, but couldn't get a good flash reading because the light sucks so i returned it. u can try the 25 dollar one, and tell us if it is good or not.
