Clutch Cable replacement

I tried searching, but there seems to be no real directions or how-to on how to do this. Can anyone who has done the job, explain or post pictures of a clutch cable swap? Mine broke yesterday. This is the first time I have ever done anything this complicated to my vehicle so any pictures or tips would be helpful.

I *really* could use a picture of where the cable connects to the clutch/tranny.

Its pretty simple. It connects at the top of the trannsmission on a lever. You may need to remove the intake to get to it. Just disconnect it from the tranny first. It goes through the firewall sort of behind the strut. After its disconnected from the tranny you will need to reach up high on the clutch pedal and disconnect it from there. You'll have to lay on your back and hang out the door. If you shine a flashlight up there you should be able to see where it attatches. You just lift up on it and unhook it, no tools required for that end.

you will need:

12 or 13 mm deep for the bracket off the firewall

10 mm open end for the adjuster nut on the tranny side

set of wire cutters to cut the old cable away fromt he tranny (just easier that way as long as you know its junk)

im sure you will be able to figure out how it hooks up to the tranny side with the grommit that goes through the tranny bracket and the hoop for the tranny lever.

the clutch pedal side is the discouraging side which can be on there pretty tight no doubt the first time you do this you are going to get a little pissed.

i sit on my butt and lean over the rocker using my right arm to wiggle with the hoop and my left arm to move the clutch pedal . so to get it off i kinda put my hand up in back of the assembly with my palm facing me though i cant see anything. Going to be using mostly your index and middle finger to back the hoop off the hook.

to put the new one back only put enough cable through the fire wall so that the hoop gets in and no more or you will have to much slack in the cabin. go around under the dash again and get your index and middle finger around the latch. bring the hook on the pedel towards the hoop by pulling/depressing in with your left hand. When doing so make sure you lift the hook up and over and press in with your thumb to secure on the hook.

this is where you may want someone to pull the slack out of the cable from under the hood so it stays tight and doest fall off.

try to have it kept tight at all times untill the tranny side is hooked up and snug.

hope this rant on my technique will help you

I replaced my cable in prolly 15 mins. at work on my lunch break ...

if the thumbwheel is difficult to turn because its been a few years take a vice grip and tighten it on the thumbwheel , ( remove intake for easier access ) take a 10 MM open end wrench and loosen the bolt closest to the firewall on the cable itself, loosen the transmission side 1st then ( keep spinning the thumbwheel until you can emove it from the tranny shift arm , take it off and let it hang, next go into the car and push the clutch pedal to the floor and you should be able to reach up and " feel " the hook and the loosen the cable , its easier to push the pedal to the floor so you can pull the cable and unhook it from the pedal top.

then get out and take the cable out from the engine bay at the firewall...

install is the reverse from removal.

very easy job to do .... i did it after i ate at wendy's and went to pick up the cable at the dealer with a 1 hour lunch break LOL
