Even with a bad throw out bearing, the car should go into gear and move through the gears when the engine is not running. If it won't do this (it may bind between a couple gears or not go in reverse, but it should be able to go into some gear(s)) then you may have a bad tranny.
If the car will shift with the engine off but will not go into gear when it is running, it could be the throw out bearing or a screwed up clutch, either of which would suggest that you need to get a clutch job done. With a bad T/O bearing, you will usually hear a noise when you depress the clutch.
Or it could just be that there is too much play in the clutch cable. If this is the case, you won't hearing the bearing grind or squeal, it will just grind when you try to put it in gear with the enging running. I would definitely check the clutch cable adjustment (sometimes they stretch and get too much play). If there is too much play, you should be able to shorter the cable so that the clutch disengages.
The hinges often fail on the drivers side door. This could be your problem, and, if so, it's an easy fix.
As to whether you can move the car, it won't be easy if it will not go into gear.
