clutch pedal

One of my bolts from the clutch pedal broke, and I replaced it with a new one, I installed it and everything seemed fine, but when I pressed in the pedal, like about 3/4 in, the whole bracket moves lke if it haves some kind of play. So when i went in there myself and pressed it in with my hand, i saw that the top bolt was kind of loose, but it was actually tight when i came to the other side to try to tighten it up. I s there an specific way to put the pedal on so it wont move? and when i had installed it, the pedal was lined up with the break pedal, and now it didnt lined up and didnt even reach the sensor to start the car. does anyone done thi sbefore and can give me some clues in how to do it right, lined up and without play??
