Lets say im on a very long straightaway and on that straight, I can only get to about 110mph at around 6500 or thereabouts in 4th gear, is that really wrong, shouldent i be able to go faster in 4th gear? and if i try for 5th then the car still goes nowhere.
It is a 5-speed , I have the timing bumped to 18degrees, an intake no cat.
I thought an se-r was supposed to go faster than that, so everyone please tell me, is that wrong or is the car doing what its supposed to, really i would like to know what other people with close to stock se-r's are getting for a top speed on their favorite straightaway, and remember no street racing stories, at least pretend that you were on a track.....like i was.....
Honestly it just doesent seem right when my old car a 94xe with the ga16de would do 115 pretty much topped out on the same straight....
well the stock ecu is limited at i believe 118? or there about ish so even if your speedo says that your going 200 you may only be doing 118. i tryed taking mine past 118 (for craps and giggles) and my speedo hit about 130 then it felt like i turned the car off. about the same feeling as letting off the gas at about 5k in first..... it was the ecu limiting me
Yes, you have a problem. When my 93 highport was new it ran approx 134 in 5th gear in the high desert in cali out toward lucerne valley in the summer with the ac on, and it was like 101 degrees. I never hit the rev limiter so she could have gone faster but with with the heat and thin air thats all she had that day.
ive got brand new platinum ngk plugs, and newish sumitomo wires(oem) , the cap and rotor look fine like i said i run the ignition timing at 18degrees, i have a nismo adjustable fuel regulator which i have set at 48psi with vacumm 54 without. lemme know if anything else would be helpfull in seeking this problem out
What's been done to your car?
Why are you running such high fuel pressure?
If it's near stock, you are probably richening the mixture so much that you are losing power.
I like how everyone is saying how fast they have gone, but dont bother to mention anything about *** is done to their cars...
For one the B13 SE-R does NOT have a speed cut. The later model SR cars do along with most of the DET ECU's which is 118mph.
The reason you can only go about 110mph is because with a stock DE that is about how fast you will go unless you are moving downhill. Before anyone says "oh I have gone 130mph is a stock se-r" well great, but it takes so f'ing long after 120mph whats the point?
Take into account climate conditions and just how well his SR20 may run, and I would say 110mph is reasonable for what he can achieve rightg now. BTW you will know when you hit an ECU limiter, its not subtle.
There is nothing wrong with your car in short. Do some engine mods and you will see that top speed go up. Just be safe when your doing 130mph in an econobox.

i had the same problem with mine too...you might want to check your sparks plugs, and wires....i changed mine, and not to long ago i got up to 110 pretty easy compare to before, and was still going but i stop at 115..haha...
i can get to 115ish in my automatic b13 ser but once it hits that speed it seems to not want to go any faster but i will admit it gets to that speed pretty quick
i never had a problem getting high speeds out of either my b13 or p10, i have all my mods for the b13 listed below, but the p10 was bone stock except i cut the muffler off. i was taking the 15 north to vegas in my p10 when i was going that fast, the speed sensor was being screwy, but i was at 6000 in 5th gear for about 45 minutes, when the speed sensor was working the needle would jump somewhere between 135 and 140 and then go back to 0. i have no clue how the speed sensor would work and then not work, with my experience when it breaks it just doesnt work period.
on my B13 SE-R i have done 120 pretty easy all i got is a 2.25pipe yea kinda dumb i could have gone with 2.5, also with no Cat, and timing was at 17. don't know about yours man but i think you can go faster.. and i wasnt going down hill either..
i think that unclebens rice is correct, i do not have any serious mods done on my car, and the engine is old and tired, its gone faster than 110 but it takes so long, it just confirms the need for the engine im building right now.... high compression is a hell of a drug..... turbos are played out, lets take the road less travelled lets go high compression..... hopefully in a few months i can contribute a higher mark to my own discussion here, ttyl
