Another speed sensor ordeal

Okay so I have done a search on here and looked at quite a few speedo issues. My electric speedo was intermittent at best upon further investigating the wires on the sensor were actually severed making contact off and on causing it to work. So I ordered a new speed sensor and intalled it. I still do not get a reading on the dash. I even placed sensor in a vise and manually turned it by hand using a multi-meter to measure output. It is good. My question: Is there a certain angle the sensor has to be to make contact with the worm gear in the trans? I have cleaned the mounting area and even sanded it down for excess debris sticking around. Also thinking that maybe the wired on the new one are swapped backward. I'm just not sure on how to get this thing up. My next step will be to wire it straight to the speedo but that will be last resort.
