Dyno Chart: '91 SE-R with S4 cams

Greetings all,

First off, I'd like to thank Ben Davis for providing the space, since my other account is a bit screwy right now...

Yesterday, I ran my '91 SE-R on a dyno. Here's my list of modificiations:

-Cone filter ("POP" Charger)
-HotShot 3rd Generation Header
-Catco high-flow catalytic converter
-Bosal mid-pipe (~1 7/8 ID, stock replacement)
-Flowmaster 50-series 3-chamber muffler, dual 2" outlet (very loud)
-Jim Wolf Technology S4 Cams
-Jim Wolf Technology ECU (not the S3/S4 cam program)
-Timing at 15° BTDC

The chart can be found here:

http://laf.cioe.com/~benbobbo/Slow_SE-R_Dyno1.jpg

I'm quite surprised at the results. I expected much less. Anyhow, as you can see, my peak torque is a bit low, but I'd expect that with low compression on two cylinders. Regardless, the torque curve is quite flat from ~4500-6800 RPM, then it falls off fast. Still, I think there's enough torque just before the fuel cut to justify making 7750 RPM a valid shift point at the drag strip (although my results so far don't support this theory, hehe.)

There's probably a bit more power left. For example, I'm still using the "standard" ECU, and I don't have cold-air intake. Also, for those who have good compression, there's a possibility that even more power can be gained.

Questions? Comments? Doubts (I'm still surprised, heh)?

I didn't know that JWT optimized our ECUs for the cams. I bought my ECU and a year later bought the cams. Should I have the ECU programmed?

Is that 151 uncorrected HP??? If so, that ROCKS.

Apparently, they do optimize the ECU for the cams. I'm assuming that the S3/S4 removes some timing advance that's present in the "regular" program (the cams don't like timing advance), in addition to raising the idle. I don't know what else the S3/S4 program does, so I'm not sure if having the ECU re-programmed with the S3/S4 cam program is worth $100; that's a question Rob Cadle could answer.

I think the HP figure is corrected. It says "SAE Corrected Horsepower" on the side of the chart, so I guess it's corrected, unless there's something else involved...

I made a mistake. I meant to ask if that was 151 to the wheels! That's awesome power to the wheels being Normally Aspirated.

What does "SAE Corrected" HP mean?

Yup, that's at the wheels.

That comes out to either ~174 HP or ~178 HP at the crank depending upon how you decide to the 15% drivetrain loss calculation (that's good for an entire thread, heh.) Also, you can look at some of the stock Celica GT-S (180 crank HP stock) dyno charts on this page for peak HP comparison:

Well, I guess the S4 cams are pretty good, eh?

Corrected for temperature and atmospheric pressure.
