I have been very pleased with my JWT pressure plate and OEM disk. I also changed the flywheel at the same time to a lightened JWT unit. The only criticism I can think of is the pedal is very soft, but the clutch is very strong.

On the other hand, when I was researching which clutch I was going to buy I read a lot of negative feedback concerning the ACT clutch. But I'm unable to recall specifics but many of the complaints concerned reliability. YMMV.

Edit: What I really meant to say

I have the ACT clutch in my 91 with a clutch master lightend flywheel the pedal is soft but lets out at the floor and grabs like a M.F. I'm very happy with this set up.

act clutch kits

Hello,

I am new to this list but not new to the ser world. I have owned my 92 white classic for about three years. It's about that time to change the clutch. I think I have it narrowed down to act clutch kit# NX9-HD00. Is anybody using this or any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Mike

When I had my 1.6L I had a ACT clutch with the stock flywheel lightened and have had it on for two years no problem. When I got my 92 se-r I bought a ACT clutch and bought that lightened flywheel from zex and works like it is a stock clutch but when you rev it up and let go or even shift at high rpms you really feel the difference and for the price it is just a little bit if not less that a oem clutch. Well worth the money

I'm really hard on my car, and wore out my clutch in 70k miles, wore out as in the rivets were wearing. I bought my ACT setup (Heavy duty pressure plate and Street/strip disk) and have had it in for 25,000 miles. So far, I absolutely love it. The pedal is a bit firmer, but I was used to it in a week, and actually prefer it. My car isn't very fast, but I can chirp third. It's super smooth engaging, too. I've adjusted it once so far, and not very much, so I think I'm getting pretty good wear. My only complaint is that it took forever to actually get. I'll heartily recommend it.

I like mine too, but I have broke the shift arm twice in it, but it is welded now, so hopefully no more breaky breaky for the tranny.

I don't know about you guys. I have been having a bitch of time with my ACT. It engages off the floor. Fine. I have problems getting it into gear most of the time. Not fine. After extended driving, I can barely get it into gear. Anyone have any suggestions. I have had this problem since day 1. I have changed the clutch cable upon installation 6000 miles ago. I have had this problem since day one. Please guys I need help.

Dude, no way, I broke a withdrawal lever too, but I thought it was a fluke. Oh well, I guess I'll just put in a nice flywheel and weld it when this one goes. I wonder who else has had this problem?

dougnosser, it sounds like yours is out of adjustment, and it may not be disengaging all the way. The adjustment is backwards, to make it grip further from the floor you actually -tighten- the cable. Try that, it may work wonders.

OK, anyone with a new ACT clutch (sounds like there are a few of us), LISTEN UP!

I just did the washer in the big black rubber grommet trick, and BOY IS MY CAR FUN AGAIN! I have a temporary washer (cut from an old magnet sheet) in there now, *** I could find a metal washer with a big enough hole. I have another idea that I am going to try tomorrow. I'll let you know if it works. If it does, it'll cost ya a quarter at Lowe's.

I thought about the concerns people had with stretching the cable. The way I see, you are adding maybe an 1/8 inch to the housing (effectively). Have you seen the thickness of that cable??? At the very worst, you are decreasing the amount of time it takes to wear out the clutch cable. After nine years, I'm only on my third and it takes maybe a half hour to replace?

NOW, QUIT COMPLAINING AND PUT THE DAMN WASHER IN THERE!!!! SHEESH, ALREADY!!!!

OK, the results are..........amazing. The clutch has never felt better. No syptoms of bad pedal feel. We put a new clutch cable in just to be sure. It was still a little "gritty" when you pushed the pedal. Put some washers in by the black gromet. Viola! The car is fun again. I would like to personal thank Charlie in Boynton for your help sir. He has a pretty sweet 98 ser also. I would recommend this trick to anyone who hasn't done it. I went for a long 2 hr drive last night to see if any of the old problems would show it's ugly face and nothing. I'm very happy. Once again, thank all you guys for your help.

ya, try breaking it twice................. just weld a piece of 1/4 inch steel on top of it and go for it. I just drive around with a extra clutch cable in the trunk now.

Can you describe this method some more? I don't understand exactly where and what you are talking about. (I have just bolted my act clutch kit on my flywheel)

Also, how exactly are you guys welding the arm? Where are you welding it? Wouldn't this prevent it from being removed from the tranny in the future?
