rod knock?

anywho... so tonight i am driving around with the radio off and windows down.. sitting there idling in the street when i notice and odd faint knocking... pop the hood and poke my head around.. it is coming from the passenger side adn is RPM relative... could this be the dreaded spun bearing or rod knock? it went away after sitting for about 2 hours but came back faintly... it is a muffled knock. not anything really loud.

if it is either how long do i have before catastrophic failure? i don't have the $$ for an engine right now and this is my daily driver too..

Start the car up and pull each plug wire one by one till the knock goes away. If it dissapears with a certain wire pulled out then it's that cylinder. If its still there through all of that then the problem is something else.

at one point i thought i was getting some rod knock...
but it turned out to be a loose spark plug...
so check your spark plugs, you might luck out.

well the question is moot now... engine let go on the way to work this morning... starting making a different sound and could feel it in the shifter... then coming to a stop light the car started blowing smoke... put in neutral and engine died... end of story...

now working on getting it swapped out.

Sorry to hear that, luckily DE's are plentiful and cheap. Good luck with the swap.

I've been driving with a pretty bad rod knock in my G20 for well over a year now. I just don't rev it and keep it full of oil. I will swap it out soon though as I don't want to get stranded.

It may also be an exhaust manifold leak. Do you have a header?
