I have seen this on more then one SE-R

Has anyone ever had it fixed?

it's right where the metal is joined, between the door hinges

on both sides, but has not rusted through

That is a common spot that rusts out on Nissans. Mine is rusted just like yours. I think its too complicated to repair correctly. Just spray some anti-rust enamel on it and call it a day.

My car had the same issue. When I had the car painted they took off the door to install new hindges and while doing so they repaired all the rust spots.

Ya I had my doors and fenders pulled of and on the drivers side the rust was cut out and metal welded in and smoothed looks stock. On the passanger side it was minimal so it was grinded done and painted....

Damn I wouldn't think it would happen to native Florida cars too. Did they come from up north or something?

same here, only me and my buddy did the work. he's got a welder. we cut away the old crap, grinded it down and welded in the new crap. anymore opening and my door woulda fallen off the hinges! only thing, somehow my driverside speaker no longer works, but the power mirror does?

If a car spends time outside and within like two miles (not sure of exact distance) from the ocean it can rust it almost anywhere. Most people don't expect it in these areas and it can go unchecked for a few years.

I have similar problems in the door-jams on the seam weld. It seems to have emerged while I had the car down for 20 months or so. I want to get inside that cavity somehow and do an asessment.

the car i just bought has the same, right by the door hinge. it is rused through at about the size of a quarter. just hit it with a small shot of "zink rich primer" by krylon (you can find it at auto zone) and it should be more than fine. or if your a glutton for hard work, get in their with a wire brush and sand paper, prime it, hit it with a close matching duplicolor paint, and if need be weld or rivot in a new peice of metal.

The '92 I bought on sat has the same thing inside both doors. Its a PA car, and I brought it to Upstate NY, where the roads are salted heavily due to the severe weather we get in the winter. The salt up here will rust a brand new car within 5-6 years if not washed off on a regular basis. Had it been a NY car, the entire inside of the door jam would be rusted out.

A good friend of mine is a body man and said the repair wouldn't be too hard or even time consuming. We are going to cut the bad spot out on each side, grind it out even, weld in some new plates, grind it smooth, bondo, prime, and repaint it. That should make it hold up for another 13 years!

Mine was really bad and rusted through a small hole so I used some JB weld. My car is a POS ***. It needs to last one more year tops and then Im moving on. Prolly not the best solution, but cost me $8 and its much stronger now. Plus I did not need to remove the door or anything like that
