Drop in filters might help a little...I'm talking like 1-2 hp maybe.

Cone type filters on our cars help more due to the size of the hole that the air is moving through.
The inlet for the stock air box is tiny, limiting the amount of air it can flow.

As a matter of fact I believe the SE-R shares the same air box as the ga16 cars, and you know the sr20 needs more air than the 1.6.

If you are going to purchase a K&N,which are the best filters out there, get a cone type filter and a MAF adapter. A drop in is really not that effective.

A drop in in a gutted airbox should be worth almost as much as a cheap adaptor and cone since the stock airbox has a small velocity stack built in.

I currently have the Cone kit that K&N offers. Pretty sure K&N calls it the Fuel Injection Performance Kit. When I first put it on, it was my only mod. I loved that growl. Probably only ~4hp max gain though. NICE noise over 4K. Now I can't hear it over my exhaust/Header. Not bad for ~$120.
