Another idea

I was browsing JWT's site and found this. http://www.jimwolftechnology.com/***...asp?PartID=449

If you were to make one half as thick as to hold 1/2 qt+, that would great.

You'd have to figure out what to do with the oil pickup on the SR20 though to add 1/2" length to it. The setup is a little different then the vq35 ours has that little bracket that goes to the crank cage that would have to be lengthened.
Would be nice though if they made one for our engine.

do you really want your oil pan sitting that dangerously low to the ground? I know i wouldnt feel to comfortable about it....it sits low enough as it is....

but if there is enough demand, and you all understand the risks of installing one of these, I would give it a shot. Dont expect it to be too cheap, id probably fab up some sort of steel guard to minimize the chance of punching a big hole in the oil pan...

seriously, take a look at your pan now and get back with me.

The one on the site is thick. If you made that 1/2 as thick, it shouldn't be too bad. Out pan is low though, you're right.

I don't like the idea...

without really checking, here is some simple math I did

Figure that the lower pan is what, around 7" square? So if you want to make a 1/2 inch spacer, you're looking at the spacer adding an extra volume of what, 24.5 cubic inches extra. Converting 24.5 cubic inches to gallons, and you get .10 gallons, which when converted to quarts gets you .33 quarts

To me, lowering that pan to get an extra .33 of a quart (give or take) is silly. You'd be better off enlarging the hole slightly on the pickup than anything...

seriously, if you want to add in a bunch more oil, get one of these....

http://www.sr20forum.com/showthread.php?t=97944

then plumb in a remote oil filter and oil cooler.

With a dual filter setup, youll easily introduce a qt or more into the system and still have the oil pan clearance you need.
