so you do or dont need the p11 axles? the writeup says nothing about axles.
here we go again....
read the rest of the thread!
you won't have to change your passenger axle/halfshaft no matter what (provided you got a SR20)
driver axle depends on what tranny you are putting in and chassis you have:
installing a lsd tranny?: use a lsd tranny axle for your chassis:
i.e. for people with B13 and 95-97 B14 se-rs, use your current axles, for people with 98-99 SE-R/SE/SE-Ls, go get a 95-97 SE-R axle
installing a non-lsd tranny?: use a 98/99 SR20 equipped car axle for B13 and B14s
use a B15 SE w/o power package axle for B15s
use a P10 w/o lsd axle for P10s
lol....i know this thread is long, but I've read it, and you should too, before asking....EVERYTHING is covered, you just gotta read. print it out and read it that way, makes it a bit easier.
Ah! I found one thing that is not covered! I tried emailing gregv but I think I have his old email and it never got to him (from when he was at mossy, before he moved to *edited to protect the innocent*, and then back to mossy)
that, or he's too busy (yeah right!)
anyway....here's the Q
NISMO limited slip? to fit or not to fit?
will one fit in a P11 non-lsd?
will one fit in a lsd tranny?
it does not say it WON'T fit there!
BUT it doesn't say it fits...
in a P11 ANYWHERE!
sorry, it's getting late for me, and I got Dr Suess on the brain
So, does anyone have the answer?
perhaps we can compare the part numbers for the RS5F70 and RS5F50 stock vlsds to find out.
but do either fit the RS5F70 transmissions? that is the question. I heard someone on this board say once that Nismo does not make a limited slip for the B15 trannies, but it has never been officially (and by that I mean by someone that has tried it) confirmed or denied.
Also, the OEM lsd one is about $700. that's a pretty big difference from the $1075 for the non-lsd unit listed on mossy performance. but its offset by the lower cost of the non-lsd tranny by a little.
Never seen a writeup on one of these nismo lsd installs either: any shimming required for these front drive lsds? I know it is needed on the rear dirivers to adjust axle bias and breakaway torque.
Seeing how the breakaway torque is "pre set" at 36 ft-lb, I would guess not, but doesn't hurt to ask.
EDIT:
I just got a email from greg. Thanks alot man!
I can't get any confirmation from anywhere that they do, and your
application list is a bit ambiguous.
also, is the unit a straight drop in or does it need to be shimmed and
adjusted?
is a housing gasket provided in the install kit also or does
the transmission just use the grey RTV for that seal?
Thanks for your time

In order of your questions:
Yes they fit. Order the correct one. w/ or w/o OEM LSD
Straight drop in sort of, you may still need to check clearances, but
that's normal.
Silicone.
RS5F70[A] or [V]???--im not sure, I will check tomorow if i remember, though.
I think the all lsd [V code] ring gears are the same size, and all non lsd [A-code] ring gears are the same, IIRC. so my guess is that if it fits one, it fits the other.
also, i dont recall that they need to be shimmed. its not noted in the catalog, and usually stuff like that is. also, since it lists its breakaway torque, I would guess that it wouldnt need to be preload/bias adjusted. Not 100% though.

{A} is the open dif, {V} is the viscous (LSD)
When I say shimmed, I mean there are shims in there on the outside of the bearings. If you pick fly sh*t out of pepper, you can check all the clearances and stuff and adjust as necessary. If you're like me, you bolt that focker in there, and have the tires spinning before the jack is down.

I wish someone would actually try the Nismo LSD in a B15 with LSD to actually positively know that it will fit. Noone's done it. Someone should be the pioneer.

Theres nothing to try. I have fit a B13 LSD into the B15/P11 case. It is the same.
I guess I cant say Im 100% sure cause I didnt sit there and count teeth, but it will fit.

GregV has put the Nismo lsd into the B15 tranny, so it is 100%. This is good... so now when I strip 3rd gear on the track, I just have to find a B15 parked somewhere to borrow there tranny
I was always under the assumption that it wouldn't work... probably due to the nissan parts guy (not Greg) that I talked to about this when purchasing my nismo lsd.
