megasquirt

Has anyone heard of megasquirt? If so, has anyone used it? Is it better than the other management systems out there?

Everyone's heard of MegaSquirt. =]

When I went stand-alone, my decision was between MegaSquirt and VEMS. I chose VEMS because of the integrated WB02. I hear MegaTune has that as well now. A lot of people I've seen are very happy with MegaSquirt. It's hard to go wrong with it as a choice. It came down to money for me. MegaSquirt looks cheap until you start adding tons of capability to it. It then starts to look like the price of VEMS, but seems like a lot more work. I have no direct experience with MegaSquirt how-ever. Also it would be good to note that MegaSquirt is fuel delivery only. If you want ignition control, you're going to want to look at MegaSquirt II I believe.

Megasquirt is a DO IT YOURSELF stand alone system, it allows you in a begining control all your fuel, but with upgrades it could control ignition maps too. There is a code variant, that allows you to do all the major things that the expensive Stand alone systems claims, like Traction controller, Anti Lag systems, Launch Control, Water/Alcohol Injection, etc.. (ms extra)

You can use megasquirt I with ms extra to control ignition and get all the capabilities or just Megasquirt II to control ignition and fuel only.

Check HTTP://WWW.MEGASQUIRT.INFO for more info and http://www.msextra.com/manuals/MS_Ex...nual_Index.htm for ms extra features.

I bought mine on http://www.diyautotune.com/ Also you can check tech info there.

I will use it in a SR16VE engine with 20DE crank ^^
Also i already use it in a GA16DE engine. You need to read, isn't so hard as many thinks, you just need to read and do it. MS works fine with stock Dizzy Optical, it needs a few modifications to run with the optical sensor. (click here)
All nissan 360º - 4 dizzy optical will work with this configuration, you will need to locate the 4 window signal cable (G/B for the example, but isn't always the same colour)

hope it helps!

I personally know two people with Megaaquirt. They are both running it on motorcycles (one yamaha and one honda). It doesn't seem that bad, you just don't have anything to start with. AEM gives you startup cals and many others have startup or stock config cals to work from.

i am running aem ems and i do like the fact that it does give you a base to start with, and obviously gives you configurations to advance from there, which is nice. i would feel to run a stand alone that needs your to configure might get tricky if you arent 100% sure on your tuning

it is mainly things like crank triggers, engine start, timing signals and stuff that is the toughest. The actual fuel/air maps and things are pretty standard across most platforms (just the software changes).

There are plenty of guys running MegaSquirt on SR20s. There's no reason you can't get all the crank trigger, etc. info from them. I wouldn't worry about it at all. Hell, if all else fails, VEMS configurations (which I have) can be swapped into use for MegaSquirt, as they are extremely similar in that respect.

The comparison doesn't have all of the prices up yet, but it's a good place to start.

MegaTune tends to be pretty cheap, but once you start adding options like wideband 02 and realize you're going to have to do some wiring harness magic, the price tends to look more than double than you thought you'd spend.

Yea that not too bad, its definitly cheaper than a aem ems system.

i still like my aem ems...rock solid.

but nothing wrong with DIY stand alone esp if you can save money

i ran it on my bike. it blew up, theres no knock control at all. i work with ems systems everyday and i wouldnt dare to install another megasquirt. there are alot of other systems out there that offer more. the life of your engine isnt worth the price of saving a couple hundred dollars. but thats my opinion and it doesnt count.lol
