ok i got the AEM ems for my 97 nissan w/ the gtir swap. it's running lean as can be..and i can't figure out why. does anyone have a basic tune that it'll atleast run decent that i can load to it? or any help would be greatly appreciated it's a stock engine pretty much.
thanks so much!
If it's running lean all over, select the entire fuel delivery map and right click, go to "change" and enter the value of "1" or so... This will add 1 ms to every value in the map, and will richen you up a little bit. Do that until it's running safe and work from there.
Not the best idea ever, but it'll work in a pinch.
sweet...i'll give it a try. it's weird ***, the spark plugs got mega fuel in em, the gas mileage is horrible, and it's spitting gas out the exhaust like crazy (all rich things) but the AEM says it's running lean..should i trust the signs or trust the program? i have a tenancy to trust what all the signs are..lol
Woah... Yah... If you have gasoline all over the place like that, it is running rich. The wideband gauge only reads oxygen gas, so it doesn't see the liquid gasoline. It only reads the oxygen level, sees there's tons of oxygen, and tells you that you're running lean. When in actuality you have a gasoline vaporization problem. I don't know if AEM would do this, but do you know you're injectors are firing on closed intake valves? Or, you might be so rich the air is being cooled to the point where the gasoline isn't vaporizing well...
I would trust the signs, not the oxygen sensor. They read lean when the gasoline doesn't vaporize.
hmmm. yeah, one gauge says 17 for the AFR then when i get on it it goes over 19. and i know if that was the real case, the engine would be fried already. then the other AFR gauge on it (for some reason it has 2?) it's at 5-6 (and in a red zone) then when i get on it goes up in the 7-8 range. so i'm trusting the lower number..*** just idling it's sucking gas like nuts lol. it was just leaking out of the exhaust today, so yeah..it has to be rich. it's really weird..
and..i have no idea about the injector firing. but, do u have any idea what injector pulse should be at?
stock gtir injectors is 444CC, so i'm guessing it'll be alittle higher then 370's? so like 2.1 ms? which is what it's at now...
man..this thing is confusing as anything lol. i'm trying to figure it all out ***. don't wanna take it to a shop n have them do it..they charge out the ass..
Yah, I should have known that. With 444cc you're going to want a lower number. By my calculations I'd say 1.6 ms or close to that. At 2.1 you're pushing too much fuel for sure.
sounds like you don't have the O2 sensor setup properly in the AEM software and you don't have the calibration setup for the O2 sensor. Also, make sure you are displaying O2 sensor readings in the proper type, example Gasoline and AFR instead of methanol or something else.
