Best for MPG?

Engine: NA s13 Sr20de
Doing full tune-up, regrounded maf

My question is.. im currently running 91 octane fuel for around 17-18 degrees timing(because I seen that advancing timing a little will increase fuel mileage by a few miles)

Would I get the same effect with running 87 octane at 15 degrees?

I use chevron and 87 is around 40 cents cheaper per gallon lol

and also.. I was thinking about using a z32 fuel filter(easier fuel flow)
is this ok for 87 at 15 degrees?

To raise your gas mileage the most i would throw N1 pistons and sr20ve rings in your motor. This would do more to power and Mpg. I have a 300zx fuel filter and it only seemed to make like a .5 mpg difference in my experience, it is only 15 bucks so this would be good. Higher octane will always give you better fuel economy, but i am not sure about the timing side of things.

try to get fuel w no ethanol. if you are tuned up, tires @ right pressure, all the aero stuff is tight (no flapping splash guards etc) you should prob be set for good mpg.

Try to get the tps in spec and make sure O2 sensor is working right. After that you want to get an ecu and tune... or do crazy aero stuff and learn to hypermile;

remember if the alignment is out of spec (often caused by worn ball joints, control arm bushings etc) it can rob between 1-2mpg and in bad cases even more.

cai and exhaust should net you a small increase in mpg. At least in my experience it does.

edit; good wheel bearings cna help get the most mpg. Bad ones can be dangerous and rob fuel economy.

ok Benito

I guess I will be doing a good inspection of the front and back end.

It came lowered on adjustable coilovers so normally this will wear everything down there if it is not aftermarket also...

where do I go exactly for a Calum Ecu? and what are the normal prices? of course I have a regular Dizzy at the moment so finer tuning is limited until I upgrade on that also.

Calum threw in the towel a few years ago. You can hang out in the classified section and wait for one to pop up.

I personally just bought a used Nistune package but there's licensing issues and software etc. Lucky for me my boy has experience w it. Its also kind of hard to find.

Your best bet is;

http://www.nismotronic.com/index.php

Those guys are active and offer good support.

edit; also fyi make sure the maf is grounded at the same spot as the injector harness and ecu. that syncs up the readings for all 3. On fwd this location is teh intake manifold.

ok thanks for the link and info.

and yes I cleaned up the ground location and grounded to the intake manifold.

My mpg isnt horrible at the moment now. but Im just trying to decide on whether to go with 91 octane and advanced timing, or 87 octane with stock timing.

I use chevron and the difference in 87-91 price is 40 cents per gallon so I want to see what will net me the most saved money.

From what I know your mpg is aok. sure it could be better but its very good.

With ethanol added fuel I don't know. You should be able to run more timing....

I used to recommend running advance timing and 93 (never tested in cali) for mpg because I tested out that you get enough extra mpg to justify the price.... many don't agree with that. That was when gas was 100% gasoline.

You have to test that for yourself. I got my Nistune ecu today and i', stoked to lose this JWT ecu. My last VVL SE-R was hitting 36-37mpg on a regular basis (calum basic w/ custom tune) No hypermiling or slow driving tricks. That was 75-80mph cruising and vvl blasts.

This guy really has the mpg dialed-in

lol yea that guys all about the mpg's

ok. I just got my basic tune up stuff and I have one more question that maybe you can help me out with

My ecu is 23710-52F00 #60
A11-000-G22

PS13

do you know what o2 sensor I should use with this?
looks like its a skinny o2 with red/black/white wires(on the vehicle) but I dont know if this is the redtop/300zx o2 sensor that is fine to use with this ecu...what do you think?

Example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-NISSAN-S...ht_2439wt_1037

pretty much looks like that... but again, i need to know the correct one for my ecu

I dont know what O2 sensor you need.

ECU codes are prob specific to the chassis BUT I'M 99% sure you can use a B13 ecu
