Non-OE part substitutions

This is another thing I've been thinking about a little bit lately......do we know of nay good non-original part substitutions or replacements, either parts that are a suitable driect replacement for an OE part or an "upgrade" in some sense or another?

Reading the tubular control arm thread made me wonder whether an LCA from something else - I dunno, an Altima, for instance would fit on a Sentra and offer some benefit, whether in improved geometry or something else. This is just an example. Another one is a post from this morning about using a certain Ford part for a flywheel bolt.

If you've got a Ferrari with a broken power window, a new motor from a Ferrari dealer will cost a fortune. But the part is identical to that out of Fiat Croma or Ford XXX or whatever, which is cheap and easy to find. Good mechanics for specialty makes tend to learn these kinds of things over time.

Anything out there that y'all know?

Ford part number e1fz-6379-a are an exact match to the flywheel bolts in my P10 except they are six point and half the cost.

I heard something about putting a alternator from an altima or maybe a g30 on an older car will raise the amps. I dont remember the whole thing but it was similar to that.

Also my buddy put a ford firewall mounted starter solenoid on his classic, cause he was sick of his starter going out and all he has to do is change the solenoid that is right by his brake master cylinder takes him 15 minutes and costs 14 dollars (compare to changing a sr20 starter solenoid it takes 2 hours an costs like 40 bucks)

Naji (NJ1266 in this forum) has posted a great tip regarding our overly expensive ADV22F brake pads. The tip originated from MaddMatt of Carbotech.

Apparently Mitsu 95-96 Eclipse is a perfect match (well, the entire Avenger/Eclipse/Talon lineup gets them).

Same might hold for Mazda 626 pads.

Well, for anyone who cares, the 300zx TT fuel filter will work on our cars, just a tighter squeeze for the braket to hold it on.

I plan on going that route myself when mine goes out. 1600wrms really puts a strain on our little 80 amp alts
