My room-mate and I have one for taking to junkyards. Ours isn't Makita, but they are a decent brand (we use their drills). They work pretty well.

My snap on is the sex, just ask the folks who borrowed it at the convention. I make everyone jealous on race day!

Yeah they work pretty well, we used a snap on for SentraDragons JDM swap and it worked like a charm.

I have a ZNEX 3/8 impact. This thing is the balls. I use it all day long at work. But it ran me a measly 200.

Well I'll be damned. A battery powered impact wrench. I would never believe it would work. First the 12V drop light, now this. What next? Portable internet on your hip?

I've got one and I've found it quite useful, particularly for suspension and chassis stuff. - I don't remember the brand, but it's orange (I got in in a trade.) Sure, it's not as good as air, but I don't have air and I ain't gonna 'til I get my own house, prolly.

Very much agreed. It removed 2 axle nuts and other parts without missing a beat. I think I burned up my Harbor Freight impact gun this weekend. It struggles to remove lug nuts.

I've got a Craftsman 1/2" electric impact. Not cordless. I really like it - makes changing wheels and suspension bits a breeze, and removed axle nuts on my G20 without a hiccup.

I have used the 1/2 corded impact and it works good in the garage. If you go with a 3/8 go with the ZNEX or Ingersol Rand. They are both 14.4v and have nut, I like the ZNEX better though.

My corded DeWalt 1/2" drive is rated at 240lb-ft torque, and it will take axle nuts off. Harbor Freight sells cheap impact sockets to go with it.

Honestly, I rarely find situations that I need an impact wrench or where one will fit (either pneumatic or electric). When I need to loosen lug nuts at autocrosses/trackdays, I just use a breaker bar. Less stuff, less hassle.

An electric impact is nice thing to own if you have the cash, but not the garage space. I don't regret getting mine, though it doesn't get used much. Your mileage may vary.

sh*t.

impact wrenches rock. i use them for every possible instance. they rock for motor swaps for unbolting axles, lug nuts, crossmember bolts (the threads always get dirty), exhaust, tranny bolts, motor mounts, etc. i bought the Earthquake air impact, and i will be getting a DeWalt electric one. i wonder how long the charge lasts if you don't use it... can i keep it in my car for a month without charging?

ditto to all that.

I got a 1/2" Nikota/Makita electric impact (forgot which brand) from Checker, and it'll kick nut-and-bolt ass wherever it can fit into. I rarely use it.

I have a cordless 3/8 harbor freight 18v and it does the job on little stuff, but on anything more than 35-40 foot pounds it wont knock it loose. It was well worth the $35 I spent on it...
