Road Tar (cause Michigan is cheap)

What is the best way to get this sh*t off my wheels? I've been told that those specially formulated wheel cleaners are more bad for your wheels than good. Any opinions?

bug and tar remover and elbow grease with a non abrasive pad, like towel. IT is the only way to make sure you don't scratch them.

Thanks guys, I used to have this special wheel cleaner I think made by Eagleone. I think it was A2Z all wheel cleaner. It worked well, but I've been told by many that it's bad for the wheels in the long run. This is keeping in mind that I'd follow instructions and wash the sh*t off immediately. I'll try your suggestions, thanks again.

The way those wheel cleaners work, is they are pretty much like liquid sand paper for getting stubborn road crap and brake dust off your wheels. On the instructions for these products they tell you to hose off the cleaner shortly after applying it for this reason. Theoretically you should be ok if you don't let the chemical sit too long. But I don't like the idea of willfully spraying a corrosive solution on to my wheels.

Some of the wheel cleaners are based on very strong acids...check out the warning label.

I was cleaning my wheels the other day and tried both WD-40 and Turtle wax bug and tar remover...The WD-40 worked ok but I was really suprised the bug and tar remover took off some of the crap that I have never been able to get off with soap and water and alot of scrubbing. The bug and tar remover kinda just dissolved all the stuff on there with very little effort. That stuff kicks ass!!!
